Which will be the one to get?
Also I'm reading we will need 4k 120 hz tvs?
Anyone into console gaming?

I don't know if there is a compelling reason to get either yet. There were some neat games on Sony's last showcase, but I dunno if any were something I would wanna drop $500 + tax for.

No you don't need a 4K TV.

Usually Nintendo for us.

PS5, i'll upgrade from the 4 when the novelty wears off and the price drops.
I'm still running a PS3. First console that I didn't hack. I really liked their strategy of selling top-tier games that were non-current for $20. I very very rarely spend >$60 on a game.

Nintendo often deserves a swift kick in the balls for allowing such crap games on their platforms. Sure, they have some good games, but I have a cracked Wii and some of the games are so bad that I feel like I was ripped off because I wasted a blank DVD on them. It is embarrassing that Nintendo allowed them to go to market and have MSRP more than $5.

I have the NES here now and will hook it up soon. I am not looking forward to how bad it is going to look. I used to play it on old commodore monitors (~13"?) but I got rid of them years ago. I looked into good solutions to upconvert, but I am not paying hundreds of dollars to play NES.

if you want the nostalgia try to find a used retro NES classic.

I have the real classic NES, game genie and more games than I remember in a box beside the TV.
fair enough. i could never deal with the pixels at this point though.

How is the switch? I like the idea of a mobile unit as well as a console and there are some games like Borderlands for it now. Debating whether to upgrade my PS3 for that or get a used PS4 when everyone jumps ship.

I really like the Fallout and FarCry franchises though and I don’t think those are on the switch.

My 8 year old nephew loves it.

If you never got a PS4 before then it has a pretty good catalogue to work through, you could probably get a used PS4 that comes with half or more of the highlights

Youngest has one. He's almost 20. Smash Bros., Dragonball Xenoverse 2, Xenoblade Chronicles, Mario Party, FF XII, Animal Crossing, Pokemonz, Divinity II

Our Switch gets a decent amount of use. Easy to bring on a camping trip to hook up to the 24" Samsung or use in portable mode to blow some time off. Most games look good on our "old" 60" 1080p TV.

I still game a lot on the old PS3 and the PS4.

I have held off on a 4K TV. The PS5 will be the perfect excuse to move to the newer tech. 4K gaming out of the box and a 4K Bluray player on board. Apparently HDR is just a dramatic improvement as the resolution. I am a bit of a movie buff so the problem is that I am going to want to upgrade my Kubricks etc to 4K Blurays.

Not sure how many 4k channels Cogeco has. I guess it would be some Netflix in 4k and some sports that make 4k somewhat viable now.

I'm looking on Kijiji right now. Some decent packages. Still like the mobile/hand held concept though. Don’t think the PS Vita ever really managed to do mobile well.

I'm kind of stuck on first person shooters and open world games more than platform types. Borderlands games are my favourites for the last little while.

It works well. I have taken our Switch on a few trips south. Was fun to play some rpgs on the plane. In kickstand mode you can use the joycons in the controller holder and it is quite comfortable.

Works well both in portable and home mode. 720p is the portable mode which works quite well with the size of screen. Octopath traveller is a 5 star game if you like turn based rpgs. I enjoyed every second of it.

I had a 128Gig Micro SD card in it and the bugger was filled. I have a 256Gig card in there now. Thank goodness for newegg.

I think the Switch is somewhere between a PS3 and PS4 from a "power" perspective in docked mode. It is actually an amazing system for what it does.

As a Retro (read OLD) gamer the system is a hoot. The online account is a good deal at $25 a year. In addition to online gaming you get the Nintendo and Super Nintendo games which are "free" as long as you keep the membership active. Then I snagged the Genesis collection, a whack of my favourite old arcade games (Data East ones are on the Switch and not the PS4) and then they have been offering HD versions of some N64 games like Turok. Then there is stuff like the original Dooms, Duken Nukem 3D etc. For a retro gamer alone this system is awesome. A good number of rpgs. Also, tons of great PS3 games which have had graphical boosts.

If you are a hardcore FPS fan and want the best the Switch is not for you (not that there aren't some good FPS on there). It is a good portable and home system. I play it a lot more than the Wii U which outside of Earthbound and Mario Kart is one dusty system.

I voted PS5 BTW... Only because I have been a Playstation owner consistently since 1995. However, I am as excited about its potential as a 4K Bluray player as I am about the other things it can do. Hopefully they will launch an upgraded VR at some point to take advantage of the extra power.

Neither.

PC gaming just got a whole lot more interesting with AMD actually stepping up. No point in paying $500 + tax with a gaming specific system. I'd rather do a rebuild (probably $2000-$3000 or so) of my PC since it's my work, play, and sim system.
