Colorful new toy

$180 for 10 minutes or something last I checked?
You can buy big blocks of time at once which drops the price.

I've only gone once. They weren't happy that my arm falls off and really didn't want to let me do it. Eventually they let me go but told me they may not the next time. It was ok, I'd rather have more free time to figure things out and less intervention (probably partly related to them being worried about my arm).

Is Dr. Richard Kimble still looking for you?

It's cheaper than freefall time.
Indeed. But hardly as exciting. Unfortunately we don’t have a wonder of the world handy.

I don’t care what anyone says. Niagara ain’t one.

Awesome day at Burnaby Skydive yesterday. The smoke in the cloud layer at 11,000 ft was very disturbing tho. We could smell it on the climb to altitude. You can see it in the secondFB_IMG_1685972317465.jpgFB_IMG_1685972322281.jpg pic.

I’ve been eyeing the newer versions of these lately on marketplace as I’ve been tempted to get a dual sport bike just for random kicks. Any better or worse than the XR650L?

Saw that, for $700

What did he mean by "tank as usual"?

Volume?
Rust?
Usual issues for a dr-big?

Add seemed a little odd.

Just brought her home, it has 12000 original kms. The 'tank as usual" meant the original twin 15l steel tanks (total fuel is 30l). They are in excellent shape except for a small tip-over dent on the right.

It is 100% original, no missing parts, no aftermarket parts -- even had the OE, Metzler block tires, tool case, battery (dead) and owners manual. The bike is completely rust free, even the header and exhaust have the original OE hi-heat paint finish.

It was a good deal for $700 - how good will depend on what I need to put into it. I'll do tires, brake pads, fuel and brake lines due to age. The owner had the carbs cleaned and the front disk brake serviced so he could show it run and stop.

First machine I've ever seen with more carbs than cylinders.

I think the Honda is more of an enduro, the DR Bigs were among the first true Adv bikes, some argue it defined the category. Comparing bikes of the same era, XR was better on hard core single tracks (lighter, more clearance, off road suspension), DR better for distance and long tough road travel.

A modern XR would certainly be a better bike than an 35 year DR Big.

Differences?
Weight: Dry the XR is about 50lbs lighter
Range: XR carries 11l of fuel for a range of 200km on the hwy, DR 29l for a range 550km
Cruising speed: XR 110kmh, DR 140KMH (thanks to oil cooling and a few more ponies)
Acceleration/braking: similar

Character? Well, one is a Honda.

Spent the day at Burnaby Skydive today. My good friend Scott took Sheila,86 years old on her first tandem skydive from 14,000 ft. I helped with her landing and asked her if she wanted to do it again.
"Oh no thank you. It was quite exciting.I want my gentleman friend Frank to teach me how to play the guitar now".
