Colorful new toy

He's quickly heading towards a red bull video. "70 yo starts off his north american adventure ride by riding a trials bike off a cliff and parachuting to his touring bike." He just needs to borrow the Muffin for a bit to include some hot laps in the kickoff. Look out Pol Espargaro.
Needs to have a wingsuit involved somewhere. How do those people land? A large pile of boxes?

I've always seen them pop a chute to scrub speed and land. I'm sure redbull will have them land on a car/boat/skis at some point. Skis would be really hard (maybe impossibly hard). They are moving about 200 mph forward and 25 mph down. That's about the same vertical speed as jumping off a 20' cliff. They do that all the time. Have the car/boat moving at 200 mph to close that speed gap. Timing would be an issue. No second chances.

I saw this one:

It's about 70mph forward annd 25mph down. People have taken those numbers to extremes tho. Attempting to land a wingsuit would get a person a really bad rep. The fatality rate is 1 to 500.

i think the devil is in the details.

if you have qualified people packing the chutes then really we're talking about random acts of god or user error? but what the hell do i know.
More details out. Doesn't sound like a fun way to go. She was 21.

According to a press release from Skydive Toronto, the skydiver had released a quickly rotating parachute at a low altitude without the time/altitude required for the reserve parachute to inflate.

"The jumper was a welcomed recent addition to the skydiving community and will be missed amongst the student's new friends and fellow jumpers of Skydive Toronto Inc.,"

user error then? tragic, RIP.

On a brighter note. The skies were beautiful over Burnaby today with great views of Niagara falls from 13,000 ft.

I don't normally name inanimate objects. But this parachute is to be known as "Big Pink".

That is fantastic. Glad you are enjoying it and doing well.
Not sure if I could ever do it.

All this makes me want to jump again. Just a solo static line but probably one of the biggest rushes I've ever experienced.
I have a new hip and I'm not supposed to run or jump..........

99% of the jump is super low impact. Just tell the doctor you listen to them 99% of the time.

When we jumped we had a spotter on the ground who told us when to stall the chute on landing and I always said it was no more than jumping off a picnic table. I'd be kind of spooked to jump off a picnic table now.

Burnaby Skydive uses one way radios. I need a couple more jumps till i am free of it. It's a very useful training aid. You can hear me getting guidance from Scott Borghese (12,500 jumps) in this vid.

You'd better put on some weight or you'll blow away when you jump.
