Christmas Gift Ideas 2024 Addition

The Squeeze mocks me when I say PA is one of the few places I like to shop so I went there and bought some xmas gifts for her.
Me too, the local PA is a few doors from my office, we use a lot of consumable shop supplies so I’m there every few days.

My wife has a craft room with more stuff than my garage. She loves 50cal plastic ammo boxes for storing paints, glitter, bows, glues… and a gazillion other crafty things - they were on sale for $5 this week.

The ammo cans are good for the KLR guys too, where can you get lockable hard side cases for cheaper than a milk crate?

I'm looking for "experience" suggestions for my wife.

We are also trying to just get away from 'stuff'. We have all the stuff. When we need or want new stuff, we tend to just buy it ourselves, having bought too much stuff in years past for gifts that end up going unused or unwanted.

Last year I bought her a gift certificate for her and a friend for the big outdoor spa thing in Whitby, and she used them a month or so back. So this year, I'm looking for something different that perhaps both of us could do together. Any suggestions?

Sports and anything like skiing (I broke my ankle just typing the word) and that sort of stuff isn't our bag, though.

Movie a month membership?

Theater?

We stopped buying gifts for anyone.. other than kids.. many years ago.
The couple of kids (not ours) that we do buy for.. send me exactly what they want.. the past couple of years it's been gift cards for specific things and cash... fine by me.
IMO.. doing so made the holidays more enjoyable.. no running around, stresses about what to buy, etc..

Wife and I don’t need more stuff. Last year my kids gave us a Masterclass.com subscription, I think it was $120 for the year.

You could find similar stuff on YouTube, the nice thing about this is its vetted and curated, you don’t have to sift thru hours of questionable experts.

Scandinavian Spa near Collingwood.

Do a couples pass.

Almost wish I bought that instead of the iPad…although still can.

When I have had for thought for experiences , I’ll book an excursion tied into a future trip . Something that she wants to do but wouldn’t cough up for . PP you do cruises , which have a bazillion side trips of all colors , or pre book her into the spa on board , great fun if that’s your thing .

They say it's a bad idea to give a woman any gift with an extension cord. I assume a new Tesla is the exemption,
Mine wouldn’t be happy. She wants a Mustang Dark Horse.
I’d look at doing an excursion together (something up your alley whatever that may be).

We've been there. It's kind of along the same line of the Thermea spa in whitby that I got for her last year though.

I thought about doing a resort weekend type thing as part of it, we've done that before at Sir Sams, it was just an excuse to get away with a nice meal included, etc etc though....so I'll keep that in mind.

I actually did exactly that for her for her birthday back in November, bought her a spa massage thingie for our cruise a few weeks ago. Next cruise is not yet in the books, could possibly be in March (if we go full YOLO), June or July (if we decide to do that Alaska cruise we've been debating about for a while), but more likely to be next November or December as we typically do.

How does she feel about food? Now that we have Michelin stars you could hit one of them. I have only heard good things about the pine in creemore and thats a nice riding destination too.

Will keep that in mind. We eat out fairly often. I'm not super into super fine-dining however (on our cruise a few weeks back we even skipped 1 of the 2 formal nights in the main dining room) so, me at least, I'd prefer something where I don't have to pull out my "Weddings and Funerals" suit lol.

We've shifted our dining out from 'fine' dining to ethnic restaraunts . I've spent enough time in cooking classes that I dont need to pay somebody $100 a plate to make something I can make at home. Different if we are on vacation and can eat in a 300yr old spainish grill , but here in Ontario we are discovering a whole new thing with Turkish , Ethiopian , Middle east and Indian ( which isnt like mass Chinese) . Ate at a Morrocan place last week , its was an experience , nicely priced and I was happy.
I always find it hilarious when my friends from various backgrounds say just come to Moms house , we eat that all the time. Not if your Mom is white Eng/Scot backend, everything was boiled and mashed
