Christmas Gift Ideas 2024 Addition

Some I have come up with so far...

-Ceramic xmas tree, those old style ones that are 12 to 15 inches tall that light up. Many of us may remember them from our childhoods. The wife was reminiscing about the memories of her grandparent's one when she was a kid, I found a plug in one on Amazon.
-Swarovski tree ornament. I started giving my wife one each year, downside--now it is expected so not really a gift. Good thing she reminded me this year...I totally forgot.
-As a sort of gag gift "from the cat" I got people socks with our cat's face printed on them. A place in Toronto (Soxos) does them and they can be sent courier instead of Canada Post. A friend that helps a lot with our renos loves our cat, so I got him a pair as well.

The sheer volume of emails I am getting from stores is crazy over the last week+ and more so today. Do they really need to send me 10 Black Friday emails per day each? Most of them were once per week or a couple of times per month historically, I was good with that. I have been unsubscribing many of them now.

Maybe it is partially due to the postal strike but it is out of hand.

Just unsubscribed from over 10 retailers today.

I suspect a lot of the vendors are testing the waters with this black Friday thing as the deals I've come across so far appear to be relatively small.
Hopefully by Boxing day the good stuff comes out!

I want a 7” waterproof motorcycle wireless CarPlay display.

And a beer in a tree.

Is it bad that I open each and every email if it's from a powersports business?

Always looking for a deal, and the discounts are flowing pretty fast and deep. 🤪

Downside is that it's not so good for the credit card. And also I won't be getting anything I ordered till 2025 because of the strikes.

Yeah what's with some retailers not pivoting to new delivery services during the strike? I ordered from a fancy ladies store (not VS this time either!) 2 weeks ago and I emailed them asking for a delivery update and they replied they only ship with CP so all packages will be delayed. I don't see that going well for them over the Christmas season.

It is annoying.

For some international online retailers, Canada is such a small market to them that to negotiate new corporate shipping agreements with couriers instead of continuing to rely on the public mail system would add way to much disruption and cost, especially with all the brokerage fees the couriers tack on.

Kudos to Canadian retailers who waive these additional courier costs. For example, F9 is offering free Purolator shipping on their eligible orders during the CP strike.

Nice.

I thought Purolator gave us the finger in solidarity?

Not up to date on the Teamsters situation, but from what I understand, they stated they wouldn't handle packages kicked over from CP?

But if customers sent packages through Purolator direct, then it's business as usual?

Someone more knowledgeable can confirm.

Apparently quite collectable now.
My Mom had one. On one of her last Christmases we searched the condo high and low for the those damn lite brite christmas bulb pegs. Finally I had the good sense to look inside the tree.

I'm still getting Purolator as of yesterday.

Correct. They won't handle CP sourced items.

The strike at this time of year is starting to stress other carriers. UPS is telling me international weather is creating delays, looks like they are really choked, I have 2 packages that left Vancouver on Nov 29 that have no further scans. The delivery was supposed to be here on the 2nd, it’s been rescheduled 3 times, and it not hey yet so I’m expecting further delays.

The are 2 guys on the UPS truck that does our daily pickup, and it was STUFFED. I haven’t seen that for years.

Even more troublesome is the Longfuckmen at the ports in Vancouver, Prince Rupert have containers on dwell.

I had a FedEx package scheduled for delivery on Wednesday and still haven’t seen it. No update online either. Figured it was the snowstorm that day but who knows.
Also ordered a bicycle online and although it started in AB it’s now somewhere in AZ per the tracking so that ones taking the scenic route.

Mine was expected yesterday but looks like we are on track;
