Cheap GPS device @ Canadian Tire, may be great for warm weather rides.

Wow, where'd you get the remove before flight strap? By buddie had a yellow one "remove before arming" :D

MIBagentQ you are a genius. I want exactly that mount for my bike, only catch is I have a Scotts dampener blocking that section. What the heck, I don't need a dampener when the GPS mount is more important.

Thanks, for the pics and write up.

my DIY steering stem mounted GPS mount using the GPS windshield mount

Very nice and clean indeed, thanks for sharing. I would do something similar, but I'm just too worried about vibrations. The chances are that Bandit would buzz the GPS out of that cradle very easily, not to mention that the unit itself wouldn't survive for long either. It took about 60,000Km for a Garmin Legend mounted on the two-ball RAM mount on the already dampened handlebar to die, I hate to think what would happen with this setup. I don't know how buzzy Busas are, but I would check this setup often...

not very buzzy but I remember LOVING the GPS setup you had on your bandit when I did your heated grips vlad.

Yea, Its not the most secure setup, but it'll hold for the short run anyways. Currently I have not made any permanent modifications to the GPS mount so I can still turn it back to a car mount afterwards, perhaps I can goop the parts together later if I decide to make it a permanent fixture

Finally figured out this torrent thing :D

Here is the link

it contains the installation/uninstallation files plus iGO 8 with everything work as far as i know, and includes all the icons in the world to choose from, plus tons of skins to pick.

http://www.myminimp3.com/SDMMC.torrent

Just unzip the file copy everything to the root of the SD card as it is. and go to the install folder and choose INSTALL :) the unit will ask to be restarted, and it will make any modifications required to the registry on it is on. And if you don't like then go to the uninstall directory, and it will switch everything back to factory settings.

Cheers,

Nas
did everything thats mentioned in the post, not able to install, am I missing something:confused:

Good. After I saw what vibrations did to the most durable device I could mount on my handlebar I'll forever be weary of them. As a rider I don't feel them much and they don't bother me at all, but my how they shake the batteries out...

There's really nothing special about my GPS mount. It's a standard RAM unit, just positioned the way I like it with no modifications. Creativity came into play when I was setting up the power supply - it doesn't get simpler, cheaper and more effective than that :)

Got my aquobox and ram mount. I'll post up pics in a few days for those interested. The Aquabox has alot of foam padding so vibration should be minimal.

Please do, I'm very interested. I already have the RAM mount and power wired for my Legend, so it's going to be a very quick swap. Just want to see how Curtis fits in the Aquabox and which exact model/size of the Aquabox is best.

did anyone buy an extra GPS that they're willing to sell right now?
anyone have the bracket for it that they're not using?

PM me if you do. thanks.

I have the entire bracket and wont ever use it.
It is yours if you want it.

WTB. I broke mine. :(

So I was out for a ride and had gone into a shop. On the way out of the shop I fumbled the GPS when taking it out of my pocket and dropped it cracking the screen. It no longers works.

Anyone have an extra they're willing to sell? I really liked the modability of this unit.

Thanks.

Sorry to hear about your mishap Mike. Look at it this way: at least you didn't break a $700 Garmin. If you don't find a replacement consider one of the units from DealExtreme.com. They cost around $110 US, but they have Bluetooth, wide screen and the FM transmitter.

Thanks, I'll look at those. The REAL pain of it is that my TomTom one also just up and died on me this week too.

For those wondering about the Aquabox, here's my setup. I used the medium-wide Aquabox and the RAM Clutch/Brake mount.

Here's the basic setup on the bike

Here's the padding inside the box. I cut the hole out of the back of the box for wiring, and a slot in the foam to accommodate the USB power wire and headphones. I used the bit of foam I cut out to shift the GPS up from the bottom of the case.

I also made this plug to use the car lighter adapter to power the GPS. It uses the same connector as a battery tender or some heated liners. The bonus us that is also will recharge my cellphone and MP3 player. $2 for the parts from Active Surplus and a little soldering :)

That's a swwet setup Greg, thanks for sharing. I already have all of it except the AquaBox, so off to RadioWorld I go :).

Just one suggestion. I'll try to seal the hole for cables the best I can (probably with liquid rubber sealant of sorts - don't want anything too rigid) and possibly get an extension plug for the earphones to avoid ripping them out accidentally.

I'll be going back to active surplus tomorrow to get usb and headphone extension cables. I'm not too worried about water getting in the back, the ball mount covers most of the hole and there's all the foam in the way as well.

Just have to take it for a spin and see how it works, but I need to get the audio working alongside the gps in a way that works for me first.

Good news for me! I was able to replace the touchscreen on my GPD359 using the touchscreen element from my TomTom One. They were exactly the same dimensions. The wiring was a smidge different but I was able to switch a couple of the wires and get it to work. Yay me! :laughing8:

Because I'm sure some people here are more knowledgable then me when it comes to GPS...

Can I axe my Nokia 500 and load the iGo software on it? I'm finding the routing on it REALLY retarded, it takes me WAY out of the way, even when I'm going somewhere close!! I only use it for GPS, I don't watch movies or listen to music on it. I like that it has the bluetooth link to my phone, so when someone calls I can see the callerID info and determine if it's important enough for me to pull over, but that's not a must.

It has a 2gb SD card in it now. Running Windows Mobile something or other.

I tried to program a "route" into it, only allows two "stopover" points per trip :(
