Chain lube and cleaner???

I use it once a weekend. Wash the bike, spray the chain, go racing. If you can't be bothered to do that then what condition is the rest of your bike in? Using WD your chain doesn't get all gummed up and dirty like some chain lubes either.

Use whatever you want but saying WD will ruin your chain is incorrect.

I never said it ruined chains, I said o-rings.

.....so you use an o-ring type chain after the o-rings have failed? That's usually a good indication your chain should be replaced.

I read the tests, WD-40 caused almost no swelling but reduced the tensile strength of the o-ring. If the o-ring was structurally holding my chain together then yes this may be a factor but that's not the case so that test proved nothing.

It'll reduce the life of the o-rings, probably not even enough to notice...you're right. But it's fun to talk about motorcycle stuff while I look at 3 feet of snow outside.

As stated before, kerosene in a spray bottle to clean. As far as lube goes? Ok, may the laughter begin...I use bacon grease. No, I'm not kidding. Why pay ~$20 per bottle for another chemical? I have a squirt bottle in the fridge and when I fry up a pound on the weekend, I add the grease to the bottle. After I wash whatever bike is dirty I just throw the bottle in the nuker for 20 seconds then lube the chain. Works great and no o-ring damage. Only downfall is when I'm on my dirtbikes and the bears start chasing me cuz the bike smells like food!! Haha...to be honest though, when I rode through a time check in a late season dirt ride back in October, the timekeeper said he smelt French fries as I came up to him. Oh, I said...that's just my chain. I told him why and he said that's brilliant!

I want to go on a ride this season and ride behind you.

Mmmmm bacon

you don't really need to clean a chain of a street bike. My bike has over 74 000km, on its third chain, I never, ever, cleaned them. I just lube it after a long ride, after rain or every week at most.
My last road trip, I did 4000 km in a week, I had to adjust the chain once, I probably lubed it twice and did nothing else...and the chain survived!

Three chains in 74,000 kms? Umm,that's not very good imho.
