Cell Phone Company Help

sounds like you got a good deal on the phone and plan, S500K!

Here's my plan with Rogers... $10/month for all the airtime I care to use, call display, voicemail, yadda yadda yadda. No data... can't be bothered with surfing the net on my phone. No contracts either.

How's that for cheap? Of course, I dont have the phone glued to my ear 24/7 like the kids I see in the malls. There are better things to do than text or talk on the phone!

Is that even possible? Lowest price plan they have even for employees is $17.5

I second calling Bell Retention office...That is what i did when I renewed and here is my plan for my Blackberry Bold 9700:

250 anytime minutes
unlimited incoming calls
my 10 nation wide (call/receive calls/text any 10 numbers within Canada)
unlimited texting
evenings starting at 6pm
weekends free
call display, voicemail and all that fun stuff
500mb of data

AND

I just called because there was a billing issue and they gave me 100 extra minutes per month until 2019

ALL FOR $56.50/month including taxes

These are basically just the student smartphone plans that every company matches and any joe blow can walk in off the street and get.

I'm with Koodo, I pay $55 a month for:

unlimited calling
unlimited long distance
unlimited roaming (very important as I'm a courier out of town)
call display
voicemail
unlimited text

I don't use data but they've been included the social part for free (facebook, twitter, msn) for a few months now.

I believe they're on the Telus network and I've been all across Southern Ontario with no coverage trouble.

Stuck with Bell, the phone stuff worked - Decided on the Iphone 4, the 5 is said to be thinner (which I hate, the 4 is perfect) I dont think apple tends to upgrade majorly from phone to phone so I'm hoping that just a software upgrade is the biggest thing for the 5 (don't really care but I can upgrade the software anyway) the 5 won't support 4g, might have a slightly bigger screen...meh, Im happy, + the 5 would have been probably $199.99 for the 8gb.....

The phone will suit me better as I am now on the go more, organize myself with workouts, school work, rowing, important things etc. In a way it will take over my life but not really.

And anyone know why, well everyone I've talked to, if they work as a (X phone company representative) they are not even with them on their own phone....

Questions:

What company are you with, thoughts and if you don't mind, how much and what your plan is like.

Do you use your Iphone as a motorcycle GPS (mounted or in a tank bag)

Do you need a data plan? (wifi at home and school and that pretty much where I'll be so I don't want a data plan) - but do they make you pay for it anyway?

If my hometown is Mississauga and now 90% of the time in St. Catharines, do I need to change my local area to be St. Catharines so long distance charges wouldn't apply if I contacted someone in St. Catharines (how dose this work, should I change it)

What have you been able to haggle the companies to give you or change? (instead of weekends starting at 8/9pm, were you able to get 5or7pm without paying for it, any phone cases, chargers, etc)

Do you pay the 911 charge?

Help appreciated :happy3:

I think u need a data plan for the gps to work

False, you can preload maps.

E.g. on the iPhone theres tomtom and navigon.

I've never been with WIND myself but i have a couple friends that do and they have no complaints.

P.S WIND > Mobilicity.

The iphone 4 already supports what is called "4G" in Canada. The 4S or 5 will also. Unless you mean LTE, and even then it might. "4G" is all just marketing ********.

Yep, totally possible! I'm on Rogers pay-as-you-go but I dont use my phone too much. I dont see the need to be yakkin' on the phone every spare minute I have. It would be even cheaper if I bought a $100 airtime card that is good for a year. My service auto refreshes at $10/month and that gives me all the airtime, long distance, and texting that I care to use. This obviously wouldnt work for someone who is constantly on the phone though. To those who feel compelled to be constantly texting or talking on the phone.....you have been totally sucked in by the cell phone companies and they are ripping you off royally... get a real life (and give up the pathetic digital life.)

Oh, i thought you were talking about a plan rather then pre paid. But yes $10/month is plenty for someone who only uses the phone for "emergency" cases.

I would say go with WIND but it looks like you already signed up with Bell again.
I'm paying 45 a month, everything unlimited, nationwide (I think to the US also, but not too sure) incoming, outgoing, data, caller id, voicemail and all the other fun stuff.
However, Wind is only good in the city, any time I travel a little further out (not often) there is absolutely no reception, so it suits my needs.. for now.

Nobody has mentioned Public Mobile yet. For just cell phone use, they are tough to beat. $15/month for unlimited talk and text within Ontario. The only problem with them is those rates apply only to their "unlimited coverage" areas (ie: the Golden Horseshoe and Montreal at the moment) If you are outside this area (ie: if you are roaming), calls cost an additional 15 cents/min. If you want all the features (including data and unlimited calling in Canada and US,) then the price is similar to the offerings mentioned above.

No, you need to have a 3G capable phone to find your location, but it doesn't actually use data to do it.

False again, you dont need a 3G compatiable phone. All you need is a phone that has a GPS chip or AGPS.

Why need a 3G phone when you dont need internet?

Congrats on choosing to upgrade from Bell. I say upgrade because even the move to the old tin-can-on-a-string would be an upgrade from bell.

If you will be using your brother's iPhone, you'll be stuck using the same carrier he used (unless he bought the phone unlocked from the Apple store). If you're going to sign a contract or get a new phone, I'd say look at Koodo.

Yea, that LTE mumbo jumbo, nothing to go crazy over.

*I ended up going with Bell too because, I am up north around Dryden for hunting a few times a year. I have 2 weeks off coming up and its hunting season so that's where I'll be - My crap flip phone was the only phone with a connection up there last year (bell) and all others had no connection (other companies) until we drove a few hundred km south. So the service was key too...

But yes if someone is in the GTA alot then other companies will support their needs

How are the reception on those companies out of the GTA? I mean out of the city?

I am planning to go to Wind/Public if my contract expires
