CBR250 on 400-Series highway

You will be fine. Rode a Ninja 250 from sauga back to Markham. Top speed was 160 (was still going up, but way too slow for me to want to risk it). Pretty sure the CBR250 is very similar as they're the only two in their class here.

The biggest danger that these smaller bikes present is passing...yes they will 140 kph + but you have to "time" your passes carefully. If you get stuck behind someone do 90kph and traffic around you is doing 120kph...you may have a bit of a hard time merging due to lack of highway roll on capabilities. Otherwise, great little bikes.

Hi CBR250 Owners,

I'm a newbie and will be buying a 2012 Honda CBR250 this coming July 28th.

How's the performance of this bike on our 400-series highway?

I am currently riding a Honda Rebel 250 but this is not fast enough on the highway so i need to replace it.

Thank you.

I ride a 250r ninja... all i gotta say is... TWIST OF THE WRIST.. I do perfectly fine keeping up with my riding group... and I'm the small wee baby of the bunch.. mind you they don't do speeds of excess 170km/h when i'm around...but who would these days with our stunting laws..

That's the main reason I upgraded recently. The Ninja will do 140 - 170 km/h. But at the higher speeds you have to time your passes. Sometimes even downshifting doesn't help since the bike is already reving in the high rpm range. The only downfall of the smaller bikes is the passing capability for the higher highwsy speeds. Otherwise the bike is a lot more fun than my current 650R.

Had a rebel, it run fine on 400 series, not great just fine. Top speed was 100 so it was ok to go with slow traffic but bad to get out of tight situations. As for a CBR 250 you'll be fine.

to the OP....

if you have a 250, and feel it is underpowered... maybe buying another 250 isn't going to solve the problem. the engines in the rebel and the cbr are different 250 cc engines, but they are within a couple horsepower of each other, and the extra fairings and stickers on the cbr don't add that much hp these days.

maybe look into the 400, 500, 600 range if you are looking for a more powerful bike. Just my opinion though.

+1. The CBR may be faster but it is still a 250. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with a 250 at all. But if the OP is finding a 250 underpowered then buying another, slightly faster 250 may not be the wisest choice.

I used to ride a 400 twin and didn't like riding it on expessways because it didn't have enough left on tap to get out of the way when I wanted to. I could ride it safely and it would do what I needed. Just not what I wanted.

if u are thinking about speed and havent bought the cbr250 yet , i would suggest u to check kawi 250r . its 2 cylinders and got better end torque than cbr250(1 cylinder). i did 170kms with kawi 250r on highway (usually cruise around 140) and its very good at handling highway speeds. i like cbr250 for its ABS option. if u are getting cbr250 ,make sure u got the ABS version which worth for extra 500$. also cbr250 is more efficient on fuel because its 1 cyclinder engine. choice is urs ...both are good bikes for highway ...

One correction here -- the CBR actually has more torque than the Ninja (as it is 1 larger cylinder vs 2 smaller cylinders which add up to 250cc). This means at lower speeds the CBR will accelerate faster, but at highway speeds yes the Ninja will go faster/continue to pull better than the CBR. With that said, both are 250s, so neither will do too well in this category compared to a larger displacement bike.

no need to correct anything , if you read , i said better at end torque , yeah at lower speeds cbr250 got better torque until u reach 100, after that u have to push it hard to get to 140 . kawi250 gets to 160/170 easily after 100 ...

From what I see in this video.

The CBR's extra torque doesn't seem to make a difference. The Ninja 250r beats it right off the line. At the top end they look like two completely different bikes. Bottom line if you are concerned about highway speeds and your only option was another 250. Then the Ninja 250r is the better choice for acceleration and top speed. If you are looking at other options such as ABS braking , fuel injection. Then the CBR may be a better choice.
