Hi CBR250 Owners,

I'm a newbie and will be buying a 2012 Honda CBR250 this coming July 28th.

How's the performance of this bike on our 400-series highway?

I am currently riding a Honda Rebel 250 but this is not fast enough on the highway so i need to replace it.

Thank you.

Congrats on the new purchase! Ive had the 250 since march and really love the bike. It gets up to 100-120 fairly fast but beyond that it takes some time. The speedo is off by about 10% and my top indicated was around 146. cruising with traffic is no problem and winds can unnerve the balance somewhat but it's not a problem.

if u are thinking about speed and havent bought the cbr250 yet , i would suggest u to check kawi 250r . its 2 cylinders and got better end torque than cbr250(1 cylinder). i did 170kms with kawi 250r on highway (usually cruise around 140) and its very good at handling highway speeds. i like cbr250 for its ABS option. if u are getting cbr250 ,make sure u got the ABS version which worth for extra 500$. also cbr250 is more efficient on fuel because its 1 cyclinder engine. choice is urs ...both are good bikes for highway ...

Yup I have the same bike and I have no issues keeping up with traffic on the highways, but I agree the ABS is a nice feature on the CBR.

No offence to OP...but I see these threads all the time. Will my ___________ be ok on the highway? If its not a moped, yes you will be fine. Why don't these people try riding and find out for them selves. I say this because I took my cbr125 on the high wall all the time, and that thing was slow as ****. It's what ever you feel comfortable with, so no one on an online forum will be able to give you the answer.

Since people like to camp in the passing lane doing a whopping 115 kph I don't see why this would be an issue for anyone.

Even the CBR125 is ok on highway. Just have to be more aware changing lanes etc.

There is nothing wrong with someone posting for an opinion or to read of someone elses experience. So, you found out all by yourself that taking your cbr125 "on the high wall...was slow...". That's good. Like the OP, I like to get other people's opinions; read about their experiences. And, if a thread title doesn't interest me, well I just ignore it :)

And this. I take long trips on my 125 all the time on the highway. If I can hold 120 kph you'll be fine on your 250.

My apologies. I will go to my room and reevaluate my attitude and online forum etiquette.

to the OP....

if you have a 250, and feel it is underpowered... maybe buying another 250 isn't going to solve the problem. the engines in the rebel and the cbr are different 250 cc engines, but they are within a couple horsepower of each other, and the extra fairings and stickers on the cbr don't add that much hp these days.

maybe look into the 400, 500, 600 range if you are looking for a more powerful bike. Just my opinion though.

Grounded!

I did ok on the highway on my 125 but that was full throttle, tucked in and going down hill.

The CBR125 handles the higher revs a lot better than the CBR250, because you will notice a lot more handlebar vibration on the 250, compared to the 125. Aside from acceleration and top speed, that's virtually the only big difference between the two.

So, in a nutshell, I don't think it's right to always assume a bigger bike means a better bike. But you're definitely right about the last part.

I changed from a 350cc dual-sport Yahama to a 750cc Kawasaki sport-tourer because I felt that my bike whined and struggled too much on the highway at speeds above 110 km/h. I don't regret having bought the much bigger, powerful bike... who cares if it takes $10 more everytime I fill up the tank.

I also love the looks better :)
