I think I'm gonna love this thread....

What kind of standard issue arms do u carry too? :D AR15 and what?

Do retired Reg Force members count? And when did they bring back the MSE Op trade?

Of course!

MOC 435 Fire Control Systems Tech, Sgt (retired). Worked on all weapons fire control systems and components of the Artillery, Infantry and Armoured units for 15 years. If you could look through it at daytime or at night, chances are I was responsible for maintaining it. This included thermal imaging sights, low level TV cameras, laser rangefinders, gunner and crew comander sighting systems, rifle scopes, etc, etc.

Two years before I retired back in '96 they dissolved the MSE Op trade. When did they bring it back?

EDIT: Personal weapon was the 7.62mm FNC1 semi-auto rifle until it was replaced with the 5.56mm C7 semi-auto rifle.

Yes, and we have to go through the whole FAC and PAL process just like anyone else.

You had an interesting career, I take it.
I like my trade, I'll probably stick to it for a long time..enough opportunities to go on full time tasking..

No way!!
Don't u guys have your own training in the forces? I bet you guys are not allowed to keep your service rifle?

I am pretty sure the weapons are technically property of the Canadian Forces so once retired, you'd have to hand them back.
If I am wrong, don't hesitate to chime in and correct me!

My little brother joined the forces about a year ago now actually, and I am thinking of doing the same soon.

Jeero is correct, any weapon issued by the military is returned upon retirement, no exceptions. Now, read between the lines: Any weapon, ammunition (live or blank), pyrotechnics, etc, that is signed for by the member must be returned upon retirement. 'Nuff said.

As for FAC/PAL requirements, keep in mind that the military trains people to kill in the event they are exposed to combat within a sanctioned theatre of war - not to enjoy an afternoon of target shooting at the local range. Big difference in mandates there.

I would love to join too, but I think my mom would kill me before anybody have the chance to. Plus, I won't mind dying, but the idea of dying for a politican's cause that turns me off. Now that's what I call brave. If I have to put my life on the line, it better be something noble.

What about if u found a firearm while out in the field? I've heard of ppl finding pistols in WWII and shipping it back home, lol.

That explains alot while I was doing my PAL, there were some knowledgeable individuals

Again, read between the lines, noting the words in italics: Any weapon, ammunition (live or blank), pyrotechnics, etc, that is signed for by the member must be returned upon retirement.

As far as i know you cant take weapons home ever. Sign in and out every time.

Am i wrong? Would you be willing to commit to killing people without knowing the cause and having any say in it? Simply having to listen to orders?

I'd answer that for you, but it would be much more entertaining to watch you ask that question amongst all the Veterans and current members of the Canadian Forces at your local Legion on Nov 11.

I agree with you.
