Sorry you didn't get the answer you were hoping for, but my position is clear.Would you be willing to risk losing your job for balancing the budget? I don’t think so. Some people will be making decisions like that.

But the tech jobs! The innovation! On track for $70billion for their term. That's almost $4k of additional debt to be serviced by the 18.4million Canadians who pay federal income tax.
In Canada 1 in 4 working persons (25%) is on the public teat, with an average salary of 55K (last Canada Yearbook was 2012). That compares to 15% in the USA. Another and another 1.3M Canadian residents are on welfare (3.5%)....Would you be happy with balancing the budget IF that meant austerity measures kicking in to affect unemployment rates and the economy?
Sorry you didn't get the answer you were hoping for, but my position is clear.
And i can't back a tax and spend policy with no end in sight from any party. It was anticipated. There’s a big picture and then there’s the “now” picture. One is shortsighted, one is for the longer haul. One is for short term gains, the other looks to invest.
I can’t back conservatives who are anti-science and won’t invest in areas that need it. So that leaves my particular choice a bit more difficult than some others.
I don't see why you say they are anti science? PCs acknowledge the world is round, Darwin was right, and that climate change exists. They also know that gov't should be in partners in science, not competitors. If the public sector is doing research, the gov't need not do the same. Gov't research is necessary in areas where the public sector cannot or will not participate -- what's wrong with that approach? Scientific research in Canada is at an all time high -- what's not getting done... what's missing? It was anticipated. There’s a big picture and then there’s the “now” picture. Ways to vote - Elections CanadaSo how does one vote if I’m in a remote location during the election, and am also at said location during early voting....

I'll bet the scientists working in universities, hospitals and in labs across country thanks to the private sector's bazillions flying their way might disagree with you.
And i can't back a tax and spend policy with no end in sight from any party.
I'm glad you`re taking the long view, if managed right it will benefit the entire nation, eventually. However, i do not have any faith that it will ever be managed right. So call me selfish, but i'll vote for whatever makes the next few decades of my own life (and my families) as meaningful and enjoyable as possible. I like safari in Africa.
Are you a member of a public sector union? It's a simple yes/no answer. No need to obfuscate.
I think this has gone the way of flat earth. They accepted climate change science reluctantly. Some of them still don’t.
Where did you come from? This country embraces diversity -- not just in the colour of our skin, also in the partnerships we make whether they be domestic or global.I know where the private sector money is coming in at our place and it’s not all from from Canada by a long shot.
I think most scientists and STEM workers would say the changes made were progressive. Canada certainly has more research and development going on now that the gov't isn't competing (inefficiently) with the private sector. How can you substantiate good jobs and the healthiest science/technology sector we have ever seen as regressive?Last time Cons were in government funded science took a back seat like I said. Funds were cut, grants didn’t go up. People where I work remember that and vote accordingly.
Oh i'm doing just fine and i want to maintain the life i built. I mean, you say it like myself or others wouldn't understand that? Obviously i do, i just don't have faith in those holding the purse strings so no thank you.I guess that’s the difference. I’m relatively financially comfortable now. If I wanted to be truly selfish I’d vote for whoever was going to reduce my taxes by the biggest margin but I understand that my taxes, when managed properly, can go towards benefitting those less fortunate than me and help maintain a quality of life that we expect here in terms of culture, healthcare, scientific breakthroughs etc. This in turn makes this country into a place I want to live in. A famous quote goes “judge a country by how it treats the less fortunate in life”. I like that quote.
Unfortunately, this time around I don’t think the current Liberals are managing my taxes well in some places because they are PC obsessed idiots led by a trust fund image conscious hypocritical Instagram knob. So....I'm left with a bit of a problem. I don’t see the cons as being the saviours of the healthcare system and I don’t see them doing much for those who are sick or down on their luck?
It just brings to light the difference of opinion and you get to the core of what people value. Most don't enjoy being 'wrong', so you get conflict. I enjoy the sparring for the most partI hate election season, it brings out the worst in people, if social media is to be believed, everyone on the left is a socialist and everyone on the right is a nazi
There wasn’t a question.
Like you I spent 1/2 my adult life and working abroad. Canada, outside of climate, is the best place I have lived and that's why I chose it as my final destination. I worry for my kids, they are inheriting a wonderful place to live, but they also get the credit card debts their parents and grandparents left them. They are the ones being that will lose as social spending gives way to debt service costs. In Ontario we pay >1Billion in interest every month (8% of the budget), and 3+billion (11%) at the federal level. I often think of what we got for that money and what we could do if it was available for the betterment of the country.Oh i'm doing just fine and i want to maintain the life i built. I mean, you say that like myself or other's wouldn't understand that? Obviously i do, i just don't have faith in those holding the purse strings so no thank you.
Canada is one of the best places to live in the world, period. I would know as i've spent half of it living abroad. Time to stop the hemorrhaging of the public purse and as you said, give back to the people that need it. Imo, we don't get there by making $25 billion/year interest payments when there are people on the streets of our city.
Feel free to ask the less fortunate how they feel about that 800k statute btw.
