In other words...a career politician with 0 real world experience.
Pretty sure he went straight into elected office straight out of school, with a 6 figure income and a platinum pension, while pretending to be an insurance broker.
Edit: My apologies, he was elected to office even BEFORE he even finished school..
500,000 affordable housing units constructed across canada within the next 10 years. He says the plan will cost 32,000,000,000 and calls it ambitious.
Ambitious? $64,000 per constructed dwelling is far from ambitious, it's bat%&$ crazy. Even if you ignore the cost of the land (which I am sure he would do in his estimate as that would make the apparent cost much higher), getting materials and labour to construct the dwellings for that money is not going to happen. Hell, that is only 50% above the cost to construct a single underground parking spot in Toronto.
So the question becomes, is he stuck on 500,000 units or a 32 billion dollar budget? I think he is probably off by a factor of at least two or three (assuming land cost is not counted).
Tha doesn’t seem unreasonable to me. Low rise condos can be built for $100 sq in most parts of Canada. Also remember there is a sale or income that offsets the expense.
You can build 80 x 1000sq’ units per acre in a 3 story walk up. That would be a net cost of 100k per unit. Add land cost of $60k / unit (GTA/Van) or $2500 in most of Canada. A 3br $200k condo in the GTA would be affordable housing. Build it for $160, sell for $200 and it should cost zero for affordable housing.
Might seem significant, but $150m isn't worth a hill-o-beans in the grand scheme of things. Both parties plan to run massive deficits. Both plan huge environmental subsidies. Both plan to flood in 300,000+ immigrants to cut Canadian wages - those are the BIG SPENDY programs. Neither party will get rid of the CBC. Both will continue to subsidize Canadian news media. The Conservatives are NOT conservative, they're Liberal-Lite. The similarities in the platforms are profound.

Say what you will about the CBC, they are still the best news by far, and cover every. single. story.
From blackface to Kinsella-gate.
These new supposed free speech warriors 'alt media' guys went real quiet(Rebel, True north, etc etc) when the truth about warren kinsella and the CPC broke out.
Whereas usually they're on the bullhorn and have an opinion on everything from trudeau's socks(lol) to bianca andreescu's selfies with trudeau.
They obviously dont want to bite the hand that feeds them.

LOL. Why is it so wrong for the CPC to pay a media hack to write discrediting stories, but it's okay for the LPC to pay the media subject to a national review board, all along subsidizing opposition groups like the Coalition for Gun Control among others? Our political parties have been playing this game for years. P.E. Trudeau was a master at it. Sorry, conspiracy not found.
I just hope whatever happens, it doesn't end up a Liberal/NDP coalition. That would be empty your pockets time because there would be free everything and it will be the working stiffs that are on the hook
Will Miltonians vote for the buddy of Justin with the nice hair and zero experience parachuted into the riding over the incumbent with the proven track record. Stay tuned.
In the latest polls, there is a fair possibility that even Lib + NDP won't add up to a majority. Cons and Lib are both very close, and NDP and BQ are very close.
How awesome would it be, if in order to pass any bill, either L and C need to agree, or one or the other need to have both the NDP and BQ on their side?
33% Conservative
31% Liberal
18% NDP
6% Green
7% Bloc Quebecois
3% PPC
The PPC is stopping the Conservatives from getting close to a majority it seems. Most Canadian daily newspapers ran articles stating that Andrew Scheer is the best choice for PM in their opinion. I look at the election platforms and there really isn't a lot of difference between Scheer and Trudeau. Trudeau carries a lot of baggage and corruption though. Voter turnout will decide, and it looks like the Bloc and Cons have the most reliable voters.
I see the Liberals losing Quebec, and that's going to kill them.

Dont get me started...Apparently all you need to do to win an election in brampton is show up at the last minute as an unknown guy, shake a few hands at the local temples, and voila!
He had 8000 people vote for him and he won.....in a city of almost 600k?
The US has more than 2 parties, they also have Greens, Libertarians Constitution. Th

I can`t believe you are even thinking about this . It has no chance of happening ever . This socialist thinking that government will provide you with any sort of affordable housing .
They don't cover all the stories. They were the last to cover SNC Lavalin. It was the most outrageous coverage anyone could imagine. They were beside themselves saying there wasn't really an issue, and if there was it was Andrew Scheer's fault. Rosemary Barton is such a shill for Trudeau it makes people sick. They don't cover all the news. They only cover what suits them. Better than CTV for coverage, but too biased to be worth it.
We have social media now blowing the whistle on them. They can't control the message anymore. CBC becomes less and less relevant in a world where there are 100 cable channels and another 200 streaming channels. I don't want my tax money paying for bums who want to push leftist ideology. Get rid of CBC.

CBC is left leaning, always has been always will be. I'm with you - get rid of the national gov't owned media, they cant help but tow the party line and more importantly when gov't controls media:
1) The are a propaganda machine, have to puppet the ruling party.
2) We are wasting tax dollars --$1BILLION A YEAR IS A LOT OF TAX DOLLARS -- on a business that can be run by the private sector.
3) It's a massive Quebec subsidy -- 45% of CBC budget is allocated to French language programming while <15% of Canadians speak only French.
So long as we still have good old fashioned news where an anchor sits in a chair and just reports the news, I'm fine.
I'll draw my own conclusions, opinions, and judgements on the matters at hand afterwards, thanks.
Problem is, actually just reporting the news, without injecting "opinions" or wanting to debate it, is falling by the wayside.
It's getting hard to find just the news anymore without being forced into "newstainment" which is the news, followed by endless chatter by talking heads (or worse yet, empty heads) who want to inject their mindless opinions about it.
Studies have shown that this sort of "newstainment" is sufficient to eventually convince people to go against their own beliefs, when consumed in sufficient quantities. Lets use Fox news for an example which manages to convince even the religious right that what Trump is doing (which is against so many of their morals and beliefs) is A-OK...because it's drilled into their heads over and over again on TV that he has a "bigger plan" underway and his transgressions are "just little things" that are "part of the bigger plan". If these same people were just presented with the facts and no 60 minute talkshow about it after the fact, reality would be far less forgiving to Trump right now.
