I fill mine out in the depot every day, especially in the winter. I’ve had pens freeze, the adhesive on the not sticking because it’s too cold etc. Apply them when they’re warm, they stick. Besides, putting down mail bundles, having to write out the card, wait for person is just a pain in the ass. I ring the doorbell, pull out the package, scan the bar code. Count to 30. If no movement in house, drop card and go.He's pretty dumb. The smart(er) ones fill it out at the front door after knocking.
And for those of you who don’t know, we now have to carry these carded items around with us for the of the day. A serious pain. I’ve had 11 items in my bag, filling about half of one side, simply because people weren’t home. Got to the point I left them in a relay box and completed my route. Instead of heading directly back to the depot with the taxi, I went to the box first, retrieved the items and then back to depot.
Me, I wouldn’t mind going back to the Covid years procedure - everything that required a signature or customs got carded and the person had to go pick it up at the retail outlet. Nobody complained about that. It’s not so bad for posties with a van, as they don’t physically have to carry these items 20-25k a day because somebody wasn’t home. They can just drop it in their van.
