Canada is ******

You are correct about the first part. The cases go to zero, not necessarily the rate unless we get better at treating it.

The second part I learned from you. It doesn't rely on my politics, but my empathy for others, and hindsight.
you start a thread about Canada is fooked
because Trudeau has no Operation Warp Speed vaccine scheme

then throw up a table displaying mortality rates
which has not a damn thing to do with a vaccine

but it is one of very few stats that displays Canada in a poor light
as far as handling the pandemic goes

this pile of partisan crap should be merged into his other pile

I think the issue at hand is related as much to economic recovery as it is to saving lives. Vaccines will start to stop the COVID stink the minute they get delivered. Countries that reach the 60% immunity first will be business as usual first, the others will straggle behind and bear the costs of closures, gov't handouts and the general stink of a pandemic.

At this point nobody can say what will happen in Canada, negotiations, deals and plans have been secret and communication vague. This lack of transparency creates doubt and mistrust. Expectations are not clearly set, so everyone will set their own, mostly unrealistic. When those unrealistic expectations are not met, things go deeper into the shitter.

My plea to the feds is simple. Lay out the best and worst case timelines, keep the info flowing, be honest, and put good people in charge of making it happen.

That part alone pretty much rules out anything JT is a part of. Controlling the narrative according to plan is infinitely more important than transparency or honesty.

I'm not exactly thrilled that JT is at the helm, I don't think he is a great leader or manager. His team has a few stars, but for the most part I see his cabinet ministers as a mix of political and/or quota appointments.

When hiring, if merit and ability fall lower in priority than quotas you won't get the best working for you (or in this case us).

So We or Me, then.

At the end of the day, i would still not want to be in any other country than Canada. She has her ups and downs but if you take the time to explore her then you will see the beauty she has to offer. Make the country your backyard, not just the town or region or province you live in.

For the record, I like Canada. At least being here, instead of Taiwan, I don't have to worry about some big ******* next door doing to Taiwan what they did to HK.

I mean we have USA kinda doing that....but it isn't as bad !! Lol

This is bigger than Trudeau and the Feds. Ford and all of the local governments have made mistakes along the way.

Fortunately, none of my relatives have been in Ontario nursing homes the last year. Something needs to be done with that.

Provinces need to step up and look at how we can get some manufacturing of emergency supplies and medications going. Nursing home and hospital care needs and staffing to be looked at in depth as to how to mitigate against a new pandemic like this one.

We have people protesting just like in the States. We have different rules for different protestors, just like in the States. We have people who can't get clean water, people who can't get work, different groups throwing blame at each other, etc. etc.

I'm sure there are other things.

Over thirty years ago I did some preliminary work on an animal virus lab. Someone realized that if our herds of meat came down with a disease our foreign meat sales would be dependent on other countries to provide the necessary meds to combat the disease.

Those countries were also meat exporters and it would enhance their export sales if their response was slow.

To my knowledge the lab was built in Winnipeg in a downsized version. It was originally planned for Etobicoke but the NIMBYs stopped that.

While the economics of meat sales are different that human life the USA will hoard supplies to protect their citizens. I don't see other countries being totally different. We need to be able to take care of our own.

Yes Winnipeg. Human and animal virus research under 1 room.

Canadian Universities did go on a building spree in the last 20 years with new research facilities. I have worked on 3. Western, UoT and Brock. Varies from rabbit to primate based research.

All the knowledge of design and construction came out of the US NE.

CRA Sent letters to 200,000+ today who took CERB without meeting qualifications. This is only the first wave, folks who took it without meeting the $5K 2019 income requirements.

For a look at the big spend, this is a sobering read. https://newsinteractives.cbc.ca/thebigspend/
