Can any experienced KIJIJI sellers give me their opinion please?

Hey everyone,
Ive posted somethjng similar befor but i cant find the pkst anymore. So over been trying to sell my Yamaha Riva on Kijiji and for the longest time I've had no bites until recently. I know I've been told to expect weirdos and low ballers and I understand that. However I've come to a few personal rules when dealing with people and I wonder if I'm being a bit of a jerk myself.

1. If I can't understand you I'm not going to deal with you
2. I'm not even going to bother answering your question if the info you want is already on the the ad.
3. If you text me.

Too harsh? I'm not desperate to sell as I can further disassemble the scoot and put it in my loft until I have the money and time to possible do something neat with it.

Let the people of GTAM voice their opinions
(Oh boy, here we go)
Try and keep it civil people.

Seem legit, i do the same.

I've sold many things on kijiji/craiglist/various forums

One more rule i add is i always meet within a couple minutes of my house at a local tim hortons, and i don't leave my house until the person gets there and texts me that they are there. Why you ask? Because out of the 100 people 10 will tell you they'll take it and will set a time to meet you and only 1 will show up.
The others will waste your time and leave you sitting there like a ****** bag cause its so damn hard to txt someone and let them know you changed your mind or cant make it.

Not answering texts is pretty annoying. I made a throwaway e-mail for using kijiji, but if I'm serious about buying I prefer to text before I call. I only use the email if I'm responding to several ads at a time

To be honest I can't stand texting only because once you txt is more then one sentence its should be a phone call. I'm only 30 years old, but I'm old fashion that way.

"Hi is your XXXXXX still available?" - optional
"When's a good time to arrange to come see it?"

I generally will give anyone short of a scammer a second chance to prove their level of retardation.

After that:
1. Agreed
2. I generally will repeat some info. Some things can be missed.
3. I never list my phone#. The last thing I need is some retard calling/texting me. I only give out my number when an arrangement to meet/sell has already been made.

I've had a lot of changing interests so a lot of stuff goes to kijiji. The results are really entertaining, I will try and price it fair and if it goes ok, if not that's ok too.
For every easy transaction there is an idiot that wants a $25 dollar item delivered to Gander N.F. at 8pm on a tuesday.

So far I've met a lot of cool people that can make use of what I dont have a need for. And that makes it ok.

On a slightly related note, what's with people not pulling down their ads and getting bitchy as all hell when you contact them?

post up the ads so we ALL can email them. If they are too stupid to take down an ad then they should get spammed endlessly.

Unless you say so in the ad; "no texts" or something, then I think it's unfair to ignore them. It's just another way to be reached, and some prefer it over email or voice calls.

Otherwise, I agree with your rules. My rules are: No name = no reply, and if they don't refer to something specific in the ad then I treat it as suspicious.

Reasons texting is good;

No long distance charges.
If you are hard to understand verbally texts are sometimes easier to read.
You typically get an answer right away.
There is history of the discussion

I like texting as I can do it while working without sacrificing work performance or takint time off work. Also keeps the yapping to a minimum. Last car I sold was after a sizeable text exchange.

What I hate (other than lowballers, of course) are people trying to barter their services for the item. How much tree pruning do you think I need in order for you to cover a $2000 motorcycle? Also had carpentry services offered for a gun that I was selling.. I put up a CASH price, not a cooked chickens price!

Friend of mine was trying to sell an item worth $400 for only $100, he got a good deal and wanted to pass it on. After a week nobody called. I suggested that he change the price to $300 and he sold it the same day. Strange but true.

I hate when buyers message you, you reply and then they disappear off the face of the earth.

This drives me nuts, have had at least 10 of these so far for the car i have for sale right now.

"If the deal seems too good to be true, it probably is." People would rather have a good deal than be burned on an unbelievable deal.

Selling a washer/dryer most recently. Had 3 emails where people made offers, I said 'OK, here's my number, come get them' and nothing happened.

And that's where lowballers come in. People just shotgun emails to everything and anything, if you can spurt out 100 emails/day and 1 says 'sure come get it', then you've snagged that unbelievable deal. I know a few people that spend their days off work just doing that. It's the equivalent of driving around to garage sales on a sunday, but with the interwebs, it's a lot easier.

I had my Kijiji unbelievable deal. It was on a Garmin Legend HCX - generally these went for about $150 - $200 The sale also included the garmin Topo maps for Canada which sell for another $150. The guy had it up for $100 so I said I would take it and offered to pick it up that night. When I showed up the unit was pretty much brand new in the box and seemed to not be used at all. The guy bought for his wife who was a hiker. The wife chimed in that it was a stupid gift and that she only used it once. They proceeded to lightly bicker and fight back and forth, I gave him the $100 and got the hell out of there. It was quite funny actually
