Can any experienced KIJIJI sellers give me their opinion please?

Hey everyone,
Ive posted somethjng similar befor but i cant find the pkst anymore. So over been trying to sell my Yamaha Riva on Kijiji and for the longest time I've had no bites until recently. I know I've been told to expect weirdos and low ballers and I understand that. However I've come to a few personal rules when dealing with people and I wonder if I'm being a bit of a jerk myself.

1. If I can't understand you I'm not going to deal with you
2. I'm not even going to bother answering your question if the info you want is already on the the ad.
3. If you text me.

Too harsh? I'm not desperate to sell as I can further disassemble the scoot and put it in my loft until I have the money and time to possible do something neat with it.

Let the people of GTAM voice their opinions
(Oh boy, here we go)
Try and keep it civil people.

Well if you want to sell it you have to put up with the crap to a certain extent if you want to find that buyer. I've always responded to questions, thinking that might be the buyer asking that dumb question. Text, yes I answer them too, usually with something like "cash talks, come and see it". If you're not in a hurry to sell it can be an interesting experience. For the six people that said they'd buy, one actually did. YMMV good luck!

There's unfortunately no IQ test required to read ads on kijiji, so you have to expect some nonsense. Ride it out, there are some legit buyers out there, but they seem to be grossly outnumbered.

I've always had very good luck selling on Kijiji.
Have come across a few jerks but take It for what it is and just ignore the stupidity and answer any questions they have.
Low ball offers are just answered with a "no thanks".
If its not selling chances are you price is off to lunch, but odds are someone somewhere will pay what you want.

Two things ive noticed lately on Kijiji.

1. Sellers that don't want to actually sell. When a buyer contacts you to purchase you should be willing to meet and sell in a resonable amount of time. You should not tell them you cant meet for 3 days and then after those three days say the item is sold.

2. When you list three ways for people to contact you should be willing to respond to any forms of those you listed. If the seller says text is best then the seller should respond to the text not call.

1. If I can't understand you I'm not going to deal with you
2. I'm not even going to bother answering your question if the info you want is already on the the ad.
3. If you text me.

1. This is a country of immigrants, I can't realistically expect every to have the best grammar and spelling.

2. This is a world of morons, I can't realistically expect everyone to have a brain and be able to read the whole ad of two lines.

3. I hope you specify no texts. I prefer to text people because that way you can answer when it's convenient for you. If its a great deal and I have no questions, I'll call to set up a time to view it.

I agree with texts and email, if you can't take the time to answer that then there's no way you'd pick up my call.

You're the seller, you sell to who you want so no, you're not being a jerk.

I also get this whole "sellers who don't want to sell" thing. Like seriously? You put something up for sale and you expect me to jump through hoops to get it? You won't even meet me halfway to do the transaction? People these days...can't tell you the number of potential sales I've turned away from because of high-horse sellers.

edit: funny thing is, you see their ad pop up over and over again too

Its todays world of instant communication and the flood of it. This desensitizes everyone to see contact someone and wasting their time as ok.

For the longest time i was selling used Iphone 4 that was in MINT condition for an incredible price....The amount of stupid was incredible. But thats what happens when everyone has internet on their phones and time to waste. Incredible detailed adds with an "still available if ad is up" ALWAYS has 20 people with msgs such as

"yo, still for sale?" "yo, how much?"

The best part is that everything is plainly spelled out...nobody wants to read anymore! i've noticed this too with DIY or other stuff as well, everyone now posts youtube videos on how they feel or how to do something instead of writing it...

In the end, you have to mentally prepare yourself for the idiots and just plain ignore them.

In the end, that one guy who does show up always ends up buying it without any hassle, its getting them to take you seriously is the hardest part.

I've always approached selling items on kijiji as if I'm a retailer. This means putting up with some BS within your limits to bear it, be reasonably accommodating, polite, and respond to inquiries quickly.

The ad should also be clear and descriptive. I can't tell you how many times I've seen an ad like "Sweet looking Honda CBR for sale! Low kms!" Well ****, what kind of CBR? What year? How many kms? What's the condition? Half the time the response I get is "just come see it" to get me in the door or "see my ad".

I've often noticed a dominance battle in a lot of cases too. From the get-go, either the seller or buyer often starts off on a somewhat aggressive tone in an attempt to control the deal. Just be friendly and/or professional and let the item sell on it's own merits. Don't turn into a used car dealer.

I see, very good points from everyone. To clarify one point, if someone has an accent I'm not writing them off as a potential buyer, I'm not like that. However I've had quite the few calls that I could barley understand that it was even about my scooter.

This morning I had some a-hole call me and with some attitude asked me "how the @*#& can you even justify that price?!" . No hello, nothing. I hope that was no one on this site. I also got an email that said "scooters are for fags" yesterday........

Also I reversed look up the txt numbers, one was from Manitoba, the other Quebec. I didn't think someone would look that far out would look for an old Riva in the Toronto area, Thoughts on that?

Really easy to search that way you can search province not city. I actual wish there was a way to eliminate the GTA so I didn't have to deal with the BS.

Wow we gotta deal with kijiji trolls now too? So far I've been lucky I guess

Umm... it's much worse

@Venom01

I usually respond with : which "item" are you offering to purchase, I have many items for sale.

No responses so far. And yes it's a scam.

I think the key is not to take anything personally. You have to remember we live in a mosaic of cultures, communication may not always be perfect, and some people love the bargaining process. In the end you will get exactly what someone is willing to pay. I've sold a lot of stuff on Kijiji, rarely have I regretted the eventual sale. I actually have fun with it now, but then again I'm Scottish.

I just sold a Google Nexus 4 phone on Kijiji after I had mistakenly ordered 2. I posted in my ad that I wanted $422 FIRM, exactly what I paid. I researched the going price on eBay and Wind Mobile and the associated costs so when I got a tidal wave of $250 TO $350 offers by email I just copy/pasted my canned response. Any txts just got "nope" or "not going to happen, buy one on eBay" . 3 callers got the same spiel from me about costs and I ended the calls by saying "sorry, gotta go, call me back when your serious".

A guy called at noon today offering $400, I said I'll take $420, he said fine. He just picked it up an hour ago. It took less than a day to sell. Just have to be patient and know your stuff.

Hey everyone,
However I've come to a few personal rules when dealing with people and I wonder if I'm being a bit of a jerk myself.

1. If I can't understand you I'm not going to deal with you
2. I'm not even going to bother answering your question if the info you want is already on the the ad.
3. If you text me.

Too harsh?

These are more of less the rules I use as well,
1.if someone genuinely doesnt have good grammar or spelling I normally let it slide. Laziness or Text speak = Delete key everytime
2. If I have a long ad and its something small I will repeat info especially if they have other questions that werent addressed in the ad.
3. I NEVER give a phone number - I dont want idiots calling me.
