can an average non biker tell the difference between different brand of SS?

No. They can't tell the difference between my 250 or someone's 600. A 125, on the other hand, might be a different story :o

The most well-known brands to the average person are Ducati and Kawasaki

And if they're over 30, it's Harley and "Ninja"

I was going to say the same thing, they all know ducati's, kawasaki's (tho they will automatically think "ninja bikes" LOL) and probably BMW's

One night I was out riding with 3 of buddies, two ninja 250rs, cbr 600 and a gsxr. We parked all together to grab a bite to eat. When we walked out there were a group of girls falling head over heels for my blue 250r. We had a good laugh at that one.

when you ride bikes for a few years u can tell the difference pretty easily but for the average person (chicks mostly), do you think they can tell?

no. you become an expert in something you like.
we can spot bikes from far away, or sometimes just hear them, and know what they are.

but if you are not into bikes, or arent in this world you would have a hard time knowing the differences between bikes.

you can buy a 250....take off the stickers and call it a 600.

she will never know. ahahahahahaha.

just dont park next to any actual SS.

and when questioned about why your bike is "slow", just say it is because you are riding slow on purpose to make her feel comfortable and not scared.

but seriously..... its an unusual question. why are you asking? (curious)

I have been riding for thirty years and can barely tell the difference between the cookie cutter supersports. Joe civilian doesn't have a chance.

Some guy once asked me if my old SV650 was a "1300".

Because he wants to know how awesome he looks to other people.

You look awesome OP. I take payment in cash, thanks.

who doesn't want to look awesome? looks at super models, movie stars, celebs... unless you're one of those goth/emo types, but then even those people think marilyn manson looks awesome.

Funny, I get people asking me when BMW started making motorcycles 'cause they didn't know they did.

And to the OP, almost noone that doesn't ride even knows what a Supersport is. Even those that ride have different definitions of what an "SS" is. And if it ain't green, I can't tell the difference between a Kawasaki and a Yamaha at a distance.

no question is unusual imo. i was just curious. haha
oh really?
i thought there would have been a story behind it.
boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.
i guess being curious is ok too. lol

Nope, they can't tell. Everyone seems to think my 650R is a supersport. Probably doesn't help that it says Ninja on the side. Anytime I tell someone what I ride as soon as "Ninja" comes out they think it's a supersport. I really wish Kawi had just named it the ER-6F like most other places.

They can recognize a 125 though. When I was considering getting one as my first bike my gf saw one and was like, "It looks like someone put motorcycle plastics on a bicycle." And she doesn't even notice which car/bike I'm talking about when I could be pointing out a Lambo or something.

Most people I talk to don't even know BMW makes bikes. Even the last insurance agent I talked to at my insurance company didn't know.
