can an average non biker tell the difference between different brand of SS?

Probably not, unless they got a friend who rides.

Without the oem decals, even the average rider can barely tell the difference between 04-07 1000RRs from 03-06 600RRs. Admittedly though, they do look damn similar... (I can though, I love RRs....)

Some guy once asked me if my old SV650 was a "1300".

I got asked if my 250 was a 600 once. I told the guy it was a 1000. He was quite impressed.

most people as ask if I have a "crotch rocket" - ( btw - A term I never heard until I came to Nth America - heh)

Funny, I get people asking me when BMW started making motorcycles 'cause they didn't know they did...

Two years (before I got my M2), I was in Port Dover for a Friday the 13th. From across the street, I noticed a motorcycle with a BMW emblem. I actually crossed the street to get a closer look. Gorgeous bike! Until that moment, I did not know that BMW made motorcycles. "Learn something new every day" ;)

I have a hard enough time explaining to people that my bike doesn't have fairings ("you know how some bikes have lots of plastic covering everything, and some bikes you can see the engine underneath? on my bike, you can see the engine...") without resorting to the term "naked", which people think is weird for some reason. Telling them that there's a big, round headlight in front usually gets them thinking in the right direction.

The average non-biker doesn't even consider the difference between cruisers and sport bikes. They can tell them apart if you point them out side by side, but if they it's not a distinction they make naturally.

So sport bike versus sport bike? No way, not unless they have at least a passing interest in bikes.

which they have been making longer than Cars..

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW ......

"BMW entered existence as a business entity following a restructuring of the Rapp Motorenwerke aircraft engine manufacturing firm in 1917. After the end of World War I in 1918, BMW was forced to cease aircraft engine production by the terms of the Versailles Armistice Treaty.[SUP][2][/SUP]The company consequently shifted to motorcycle production in 1923 once the restrictions of the treaty started to be lifted,[SUP][3][/SUP] followed by automobiles in 1928–29.[SUP][4][/SUP][SUP][5][/SUP][SUP][6]"[/SUP]

The average person can't tell what make a bike is if they didn't read it on the side....and even then they screw it up.

In addition to the comparison between 250s and 600s, the non-riders usually do choose the 600s over the 250 for better aesthetics~ Cuz thats how i was told about my poor '08 250

"Hey! Your HEADLIGHT is Out!"

A year ago I was like that...blue was nice. Black was smoking hot. And red was beautiful. I only heard of ninjas, harleys, and ducatis. One thing that hasn't changed though is ..250s and 125s still have bicycle tires

And of course a Black Vincent. But only a very knowledgeable and smoking hot woman would have any idea of the qualities of such a ride.

Why would anyone care about what an uninformed person thinks of their ride? I don't get it. Though I do find it funny when younger women check me out up until the time I pull my lid off and my short grey hair is exposed.

That's an intersting topic. The one thing I have noticed since I purchased my 250R, is that people who don't ride and think they know alot about bikes pretend to think they are experts. On one hand I get comments like : your bike is only a 250 , that must be slow. I respond by telling them that when compared to most other bikes it is relatively slow. But when compared to most vehicles on the road, it's quicker than 80% of them. The same people will later look at my bike and ask if it's a 600 cc or bigger. The comments I get are over the place. It's funny to see people who don't ride make all these comments like they have any clue what they are saying.

What I do notice is that riders who seem to have alot of experience and are riding SS bikes do provide alot of positive comments about the smaller CC bikes for newer riders. I found out that I can now tell when someone that knows how to ride their SS bike properly as opposed to someone who just uses it for posing and riding fast in straight lines. Just by the conversations I have with them.

I agree, also try explaining to someone what a "supermoto streetfighter" is... I laugh when i see dudes on six hundred or thousands cc in groups, look back and look at me as if im a noob on my modified streetfighter with less cc and smaller framed bike, then on a left turn i see them reving and making the turn at less then 5mph with the left foot draggin on the floor "because their not confident even doing turns LOL" as i wait for them to make the turn following them just giggling in my helmet, and then when the way is clear while still in the turn wheelie past them on a turn, then come to a stop sign, and all of a sudden they can't keep their eyes off my bike and throwing the thumbs up, thats when i look away like i don't see them.lol ....alot of people like posers "many people" are judgemental, i don't have to ride an R1 to be able to ride properly or be cool enough, i ride my own bike that i built, and out of maybe seeing and talking to many riders and non riders i only met one, who actually came up to me and said, hey how long did it take you to build that.lol

when riding be prepaired to get weird comments, i've had a grown man at a traffic light try to get my attention, only to finally say "the bike is so clean, must be a brand new bike" while the light turns green. so i just ignore everyone and their comments, because i know their going to say something retardted but its okay they just want to talk to a biker because "they" think its cool.lol

why would the average non biker even care about which brand of ss you ride?

they would if their into cars and bikes, but then if their not why would they ask stupid questions or try to talk with a biker?

"Hey! Your HEADLIGHT is Out!"

I had it happen once. I actually thought it was nice of that person to point it out, at least it showed some concern and willingness to help...

when riding be prepaired to get weird comments

I usually wear earplugs and I can't hear sh.t what people say. How do you all manage to have these conversations in traffic? lol

I'm surprised no one mentioned that chicks hate chicken strips, loves people who can do wheelies, and squid in your flip flops! Chicks also rate the size of your ***** by the size of your bike. :laughing8:

Vincent Black Shadow!! lol

I sit corrected and chagrinned. Sometimes I type (or speak) faster than I think! What's really embarassing is calling one of your kids by one of your dog's names.

There's a guy that must live fairly close to me with one. I see him riding around a couple of times a month and every time I do a double-take and nearly ride off the road.
