came off bike, broken clavical

A dog bit me in Cuba on my last day there. When I got back I went to a walk in clinic for the rabies shot. The doctor told me to wait and see if I get the rabies symptoms. GOOGLE

You should have bit him

Update, and I admit I'm more than a little ****** off.

My shoulder has dropped by a significant amount. 3 doctors I've seen told me the worse thing that would happen is that I get a "bump" but I would have full strength, range of motion, and functionality.

I have a feeling when I am able to bench press (and other exercises), the lack of balance between the two arms is going to eventually lead to some kind of pain.

I'm seriously beyond ****** off.

What's a significant amount? Remember that the muscles are most likely not getting used on that side as much and can quickly disappear, causing your one shoulder to slump. Also, the muscles can tighten up significantly and pull one side down.
The most important thing is that you will need to do regular Physio to get back the full range of motion and rebuild the muscles.

BTW... Even if the one side is not perfectly symmetrical with the other, your mind and body can adapt!

Which doctor are you seeing now?

Good advice if he intended to kill you.

This.

10 years on from my accident, and despite physio, workouts, etc. my left arm still looks different than my right arm.

also, my left leg is visually differently muscled due to severe leg/knee damage.

As the riding season winds down, I'm thinking more and more about getting the plates taken out of my forearm. There were a couple doctors recommended in this thread, can you just call their office and ask for a consultation? I know most specialists require referrals. The Dr I dealt with post surgery (surgery was in VA) is ok, but always seems rushed.

I bought a white t-shirt with stitching around the shoulder area. Didn't notice till the next day that the stitching on the left side is near my neck (it should be near the shoulder). Also I can physically feel that the collarbone has been pulled back. I'm very worried about the long term effects of this because I believe my ulnar nerve is getting pinched as well.

I'm seeing Rick Zarnett at the Sports Medicine Specialist at Yonge and Eglinton. There's another guy I saw earlier (hospital referral day of crash) but he was not very confidence inspiring.

Also, I can feel that my collarbone has been pulled back compared to the right one -_-

Has you specialist had you start on physio yet? Before I started on physio my right shoulder was slumped severely (in my eyes). I was probably in the sling too long since it was taking a long time for the clavicle to fuse.

Why do you believe your ulnar nerve is getting pinched? Are you feeling numbness? When you go visit the specialist again let them know so they can do some physical examinationtests to give a proper diagnosis. I did have some numbness around my shoulder area and hand, my doctor didn't seem concerned, and slowly it went away.

if they don't bother you, i say leave them in. i looked into having the 4" plates removed (off the ulna) and the risk of infection/other damage was too much

+1 there is always the risk of infection, then the holes the screws leave behind will have to fill in with bone and of course cutting through the skin so staples sutures and such. It has been 5 years since my accident and a knee replacement is in my near future so the hardware will have to come out regardless. Here are some of my xrays

BTW as I suggested earlier in this thread Dr McKee at St Micheals hospital is one the top surgeons in Ontario he is a shoulder specialist

I was in the sling 'till last week (3rd week post accident). Doctors told me it was for comfort so I figured meh, hurts less, I'll leave it off. My arm is fully functional but I cannot grab my back like I can with my right. I figured with time things might be okay?

I know my ulnar nerve is getting pinched, probably by the clavicle, because there's a weakness sensation on the pinkie side of my wrist. Doing some nerve flossing exercises I googled from when I damaged my right side's ulnar nerve, I can feel the same stretch indicating some weird crap is going on.

Do you weight lift by any chance? I'm extremely worried about the long term effects of this on any exercise that involves your shoulder (bench press, and military/overhead specifically)

And @ Bandit, yes thank you. I will be going to my family doctor to try to get a referral tomorrow.

One thing I have learned from my injury was to be patient with the recovery and follow doctors orders to a T and work your buns off in physio. Muscle loss is usually a guarantee as the body shuts down the muscles associated with the the injured area due to pain thresholds. I also joined a knee specific forum which helped immensely with tonnes of info.

Best of luck in your recovery and ask your doctor if an exogen bone stimulater can be of any help as I have one which insurance paid 5 grand for just sitting collecting dust.

Talk to a specialist and ask him to do some tests.

I do rings, pull ups, chin ups, push ups regularly without any pain. Again... Physio, Physio, Physio!

Amen.,, With that being said, I was experiencing enough discomfort for it to be pretty annoying until I had my clavicular plate taken out.. Since then, back to 100% with only direct pressure on the surgical scar being a bit of a drag.

Finally got surgery...

Doctor recommended I get a bone growth stimulator...

I want to listen to the doctor, but this god damn thing costs $5000 and I do not have insurance. Anyone with experience with this? =/

Get a second and third opinion.

I had dental surgery done... "Specialist" wanted to charge $6k to do a procedure that was completely unnecessary and not covered by insurance. Ended up being $800 at another highly reputed "regular" dentists clinic - covered through insurance.

Thanks, I might.

The doc that operated on me though was amazing. I can't feel the plate or screws surprisingly. It might be too early to comment on that though?

The area will be numb for a while. Which doctor was it? (don't have to answer, I'm just curious so I can avoid him in the future lol)
