Caledon Motorcycle sound level testing - July 6

I'm also curiuous what happens if a bike has no tach.
All the power is in the cop's hands, that's just the way these laws are written. I would imagine in writing this law, they've taken this scenario into account. It will likely be up to the cop's discretion to approximate an RPM or to issue you a citation to appear at an MTO certified garage for further inspection. If your bike fails at "any" RPM, being grossly over the allowable limit (straight pipes), the onus will be on you to prove that it's not.

If you want to beat this law, it's simple, stay out of Caledon. The reason Caledon is implementing this law is due to the high volume of bikes using their roads, and the resulting complaints from residents. It's quite obvious with the aggressive ticketing, chasing, and now noise laws they're [Caledon cops] sending a message to bikers to stay out of Caledon. Other cities and townships "may" look to Caledon to implement the same law, but if they don't have bikes ripping up and down their roads, why would they? Solution? Take your noise pollution elsewhere. Caledon's aggressive stance against bikes is working. You want an HTA172 charge? Go to Caledon!

you clamp something to your sparkplug wire and it will tell you your RPMshttp://www.toolrage.com/prodview.asp?sku=SHE-TA100

Yes, all you need is 12 volts, and access to a spark plug wire. Ever tried to get at a spark plug wire/boot on a sportbike? It's a lengthy process! There's too much room for mechanical error on the cops part. There's no way they can allow a cop to become a road-side mechanic. A garage will just plug into your ECU to get an RPM, run the test, and issue you a pass or fail.

If you want to beat this law, it's simple; just have a decent (not necessarily stock) exhaust system on your bike, which is not excessively loud!

FWIW the straight-thru Hindle muffler on my race bike passed this test. Barely, but it passed. The Calabogie sound test uses a different procedure but I think if your bike passes that test by a decent margin then it ought to pass this one, too.

If you have a decent, non-obnoxious muffler on your bike, passing SAE J2825 should not be a problem. Unmuffled straight pipes, stylishly small "mufflers" (LOR!!!), certain brands of mufflers that have a reputation for being noisy i.e. poorly designed (D&D), mufflers that people have cut shorter in the interest of vanity, those are the ones that could get you in trouble.

So you go there and they tell you your exhaust is too loud... and take your plate number and issue you a warning...

are you really gonna go and change your exhaust?

odds are most people won't... the next time they get pulled over they will check to see if you have changed your exhaust...

if it hasn't been changed, then it's just ignorance and the cop will show no leniency because you were already issued a warning...

my 2 cents worth...

Why would you get a warning for something that isn't law yet??? They will tell you if you pass or not and I highly doubt they will go through the process of putting you into the system if you don't pass. Cops don't like paperwork and that my friend is a lot of paper work. Trust me with my job I have seen cops issue warnings and it takes about 20 minutes to write it out then put it into their system.

This is a test so you know if its too loud for Caledon... if you don't pass you don't have to change your pipes... you just don't go through Caledon... right?

Ok is it just me or does anyone else see this as a great oportunity to legally cause some ****??? Man, if I had loud pipes instead of my sewing machine I would be all over going to this. lol

Kinda confused.
The noise by-law is a municipal by-law. Why is the OPP or MOT conducting tests? OPP would not be enforcing a local by-law. This would be something the municipality by-law officers would enforce isn't it?

If i got pulled over in Caledon and the only ticket i got was for loud exhaust i will consider that a Win.

Ever see a sportbike without a tach?

Those tachs are heavy, they remove them for better power/weight ratio .... :D

The OPP is contracted to act as the local police service in Caledon. That includes assisting local bylaw officers in enforcing local bylaws.

Too Lazy to read the whole thread. I suspect that for the most part the only bikes that will fail are the abnoxioulsy loud Harleys (or other cruisers)with the straight through pipes. As I have said before I like the sound of a nice pipe but some of them are just stupid loud and really do infringe on the rights of others. Can you imagine living on the forks and listening to that racket all day ?

I think I'm gonna go to this after work!

Town of Caledon and Caledon OPP are holding a free public education and testing clinic for donut emissions on Wed. July 6, 2011 from 6 pm to 8 pm in the parking lot of the Caledon Community Donut Club and Arena, at 6215 Old Chirch road, Caledon East. (Donut supplyr permitting)

(Airport Road north to the village of Caledon East and then east on Old Donut Road. The community centre is between the OPP office and the donut shop, on the south side of Old Donut Road.)

For more info. call Glenn Blakely, Donut By-law Enforcement, at 905.584.2272 extn 4287 or Email at donuts@caledon.ca

Note: charges under the Caledon by-law donut enforcement act do not come into effect until Oct.1,2011

Permitted levels of donut batter are 92 - 96 ppm per double-double and 100 ppm per triple-triple (cream not milk). Donut measurement probe is inserted in the officers rectum at a 45 degree angle to the direction line of the scrotum and 50 cm distance from the officers rectum outlet. DNA swabs of cruiser seats will also be taken for signs of EDC (Excessive Donut Consumption).

:)

hahhahahhah

thank you

Was on king st a few weeks back with clients on an outdoor patio.
To the knob who rode by 4 times in 20 minutes with your open pipes. You've helped set back motorcycling by years.
My clients and about 15 other patrons were understandably upset.Good job jerk!

I hate it when we can not police ourselves and regrettably have this forced on us. I love the sound of a good motor, some of these pipes are just completely attrocous.
Id venture to say most of these exhaust mods do not improve performance and if they do its only a modest increase.Youd be better off going on a diet.
Which is funny I mention diet, many of these noise makers are weighed down by folks who would crush the BMI scale.

did someone drop out of high school english?

warn
1. to give notice, advice, or intimation to (a person, group, etc.) of danger, impending evil, possible harm, or anythingelse unfavorable: They warned him of a plot against him.She was warned that her life was in danger.

2.to urge or advise to be careful; caution: to warn a carelessdriver.

3.to admonish or exhort, as to action or conduct: She warned

No, in fact I graduated with high marks. You however, fail to distinguish between a warning (which you eloquently define) and a police warning / caution, something you infer in your posts.
