Calabogie roll call Spet 14-15th and gearing suggestion

I'm throwing around the idea of going Monday.

Went up to bogie Friday night, rode on Saturday and stuck around Sunday to see if I could get a spot. It was packed so no luck, but it looked like I got the better day of the two. Really good group of peeps in yellow on Sat. with no red flags and next to no disruptions in the sessions. Oh how I miss bogie on days like that.

Here is a vid of an afternoon session, minus the warm-up lap, chasing a 600rr for a few laps with some passing throughout. Probably one of my favorite sessions of the year.

Well johnny? How did you like the Boge?

Amazing place, the track and the park overall, and the people from Pro6 and the track was just great. Even though I ran off corner 1 on Sun the 2nd last session of yellow, and the bike went down when I hit the gravel I still had a good time, and I was lucky as it only caused cosmetic damage from the gravel and my clipon rotated on the fork. Considering our neighbor crashed his Aprillia on Friday and it came apart, gas tank, air box, and even the air box and throttle boddies came off his bike, and the other crash I saw happen right in front of me where an R1 pushed the front wheel going into 5, his bike slid into the turtle and flipped 15 feet in the air and barrel rolled...So yeah I came out much better then some of the other crashed that weekend....

Im pretty sure Im going to buy a season pass for next season, I just need a private jet and rent one of the garages there to leave my bike because that drive is a killer....And I need a few more days there to really get the track down. I improved alot in most of the turns where you link 2-3 corners together, but there are some other corners on the track I am still slow and or inconsistent in....

One thing I totally forgot about the sound testing of the bikes, I barely passed and I didn't even rev as high as they told me too....Next time I have to remember to bring my insert for my can or a different exhaust can. Imagine driving 5 hours to find out they wont let you ride because your bike is too loud..

The only way I can think of to go off corner one in the dry is to turn in too early. I've gone through there in sixth gear (with my heart hammering, mind) on my 1000 many times.

they have this little baffle they'll give you but I think they charge 5-10 bucks for it. The weekend I was there the only bike I saw with one was a Ninja 250 with a Yoshi exhaust:lmao:

Well as the weekend went on I tried to push more and more speed through there and turn in later, as I saw alot of people slow down too much for that corner or even downshift for it, which gave me an opending to pass going up the little hill before 3 if I carried more speed into and out of 1-2.... I second guessed myself thought I wasn't going to make it and got on the brakes...That stood me up and I did a stoppie up until the grass to scrub off as much speed as possible, got off the brake just before the grass and then all I was thinking is Im going to hit that wall, then I hit the gravel and it instantly sucked me in and stopped the bike within a few feet. I only saw one other person end up crashing in that same spot on the whole weekend...

Not making excuses but I am still learning to judge speed and distance with my eye problem, so sometimes my good eye gets tired. Its only been about 2 years now, and I have only done about 3000km worth of riding since my accident. Basically imagine riding with a coke bottle bottom covering one eye, I have another surgery coming up in a month, and Im hoping it works this time....

Its all part of the game, I was just happy I didn't have to get a tow and mess up the session for everyone else....There was a lot more crashes and run offs on Sunday, I saw tons of people run off or crash in 5-6...

Decibel Dawg .. and its more like $35.

damn...

So the kid pays 250 for the track day, then another 30 bucks to be led around for his first few laps and then another 35 for the baffle...talk about hidden costs.
Then again it was his old man paying for everything...

I have one that comes with my Akra but I just didnt bring it, the guy beside me used his for the test and passed, without he failed too

Welcome to track days 101.

The $30 to be lead around is needed for all first timers at 'bogie. Its a technical track.
As for sound check, once your passed your good for the year.

Re: crashing... so you really crashed going into corner 2. That's not unusual, a lot of crashes happen there.

Corner 5 is the wildcard, many people (including me) have crashed there suddenly without a lot of warning... in my case I was pretty sure it wasn't going to stick and I was right. I think it's easy to tighten your line there prematurely and overwhelm the front, possibly.

You're right, it's such a rip off. Way cheaper to be left on your own to remember 20 turns your first time at the track. What's the worst that can happen? You crash. And we all know crashes cost way less than $30 to fix.

And kids heal up from anything, pretty much instantly. Or so the meme goes.

Every other track has always done the same and never charged extra...
Why you got your panties in a knot? I never said anything you're implying, I wasn't the one paying so I couldn't give a **** less...

Cmon guys. It's the nicest track in Canada. Yer bitching about who paid what where for which service?

P6 is prob thinking along these lines...
1) reduces crashes. I've been there at least a hundred times. I'd say 75% of the track getting shut down in am is for first timers.
2)insurance probably likes it. The liability there must be huge
3)no one wants to see anyone hurt. So they do ALL they can to mitigate it.

If you don't like it, don't go. Simple. But yer missing out on a great track with a great group of peeps.

JP - I've crashed in 2/3/6 and 12. I seem to have a problem, lol. Back to basics next year as all of the crashes were similar. Hope to see you out there, I will be the other idiot with a season pass and a huge smile!

Sound check is a Calabogie track rule, nothing to do with Pro 6. They simply warn riders to ensure their bikes meet track rules.

Pro 6 recently introduced the orientation rule. It was, in their very experienced view, a way of cutting down on accidents in beginner group. I'm pretty sure, if you bothered to ask them, it's worked. It's also enhanced the pleasure of the new riders as they don't have to guess the correct lines at a new track. I know most of the riders who lead the orientation groups. They do it for free. They do it to help.

But then all the rules are clearly hidden on their website.

My panties aren't in a bunch. I'm not wearing any.

and this is exactly why it shouldn't be something they have to pay for. Pro6 does a good job running the track day but if its not costing them anything why try and milk noobs for more money?
