Buying a DRZ that has been sitting for over 16 months?

-Sitting in garage for 16+ months

I find it so funny that another community I frequent (3wheelerworld forums) COVET machines that have 'sat in barns untouched for 10 years', and here many would run away like it's possessed by demons!

If someone finds a machine that's been "sitting in a barn collecting dust for a decade" they would consider that the opposite of a "neglected" machine - they consider neglected machines those that have been run without oil or fluids, or some other act that ruins the machine.

As they say - one man's junk is another man's treasure!

nobody is saying to run away....everyone is saying that the price doesnt reflect the condition....thats all.

Update:

I inspected the bike today, looks very good and started/idled perfectly from the cold (I checked to make sure the engine wasn't heated up before I was there). So when the snow clears up and I am able to test ride to run through the gears Im going to buy it if that goes well.

One more question though. I noticed some tiny surface rust spots on the frame, and I was wondering if this was something I should be concerned with?

Would sanding down the tiny spots and painting over with some anti rust coating work fine?
