Buying a dropped bike...

I exclusively buy dropped bikes. Way cheaper and I know I will eventually drop it / scratch it someway or another. Plus its a big theft deterrent in my condo!

How much dropped to you go before it becomes crashed status? Call this dropped?

that bike wasn't dropped. Looks like it went down while in motion. A tip over while parked wont result rash so deep the paint is gone.

I flat out posted that mine was dropped/crashed. Haven't been able to sell it yet. Must be asking too much. It's in good shape, though, or I wouldn't have been able to put another 12k on it after the crash.

My old CBR F3 was flipped and it was fine. Hit over 200kph. Rode straight as an arrow. Got her for 1200; six years ago wish I never sold her.

Have you seen the UVIP for it yet? Take a look and make sure it isn't a salvage title. Bring someone who can take a very good look at the mechanics of the bike to make sure there's nothing else hidden or that will cost you a large chunk of cash. If after all this the bike looks good to go then I highly suggest grabbing it at that price. I've had two 06-07 GSXR600's and they're great bikes.

You can tell what the cause of the accident was simply by looking at a side picture?

AMAZING! lol

...you should spend more time practicing riding then taking cheap shots at people on here.... btw does the RR at the end of your name stand for ....Really Retarded?

Kickstand to blame, not the operator, gotcha.
I guess when the fuel pump dies, stator stops working, rectifier blows, its the operators fault and not a mechanical failure, because we all know, bikes and cars NEVER fail mechanically right!....lol

I know eh, kickstands, that lock? Where do I get one of those?!

What do you call a kick stand in its full open position? ...... full lock....and the question you asked below just proves you're another Paul1000RR who thinks he knows about bikes/cars, yet you cannot even determine what to look for on a dropped or crashed bike for it to continue to work properly, maybe if you and paul1000rr ever built a full custom bike, you two would know a thing or two about bikes.lol

and paul1000rr before you embarass your self and your gtamotorcycle friends, find the guy driving a black subaru sti with a trailer dirtbike, ask him about the guy on the bike he ran into on langstaff, that should shut your pie hole for good.

Thats a lowside, and there seems to be no mechanical damage, all parts are replaceable with better newer performance parts, as long as the frame doesn't crack, but then again, if you knew how to build a bike you can even upgrade the bike frame! There is no such thing as a non fixable bike, people who write of crashed bikes and dropped bikes, are morons who are the cause of high insurance claims and rates. Learn to fix a bike yourself and keep riding it!

I haven't been riding long and I don't know much about bikes. But I have a bit of common sense.

When I see an ad for a bike for sale and see "Never been dropped" It instantly reminds of of seeing an add for a car with "Lady driven" on it. Funny thing is that actually are pretty much the same thing. Both statements are equally meaningless and just as impossible to verify.

How can you verify that a car was in fact driven by a lady ? Anybody with half a brain can tell you that as a buyer, you just can not prove that. Same as a bike that has "never been dropped". How can you as a buyer prove that is has or the seller prove that it hasn't ? What if it had been dropped, and the seller replaced the broken fairing with a new OEM one ? How would you prove or even find out that had been the case ?

Which brings me to my other point. It means nothing anyway. A car being driven by a lady, means nothing about it's mechanical condition. Equally, even if you had managed to find a bike that legitimately had never been dropped; the previous owner may have not performed an oil change or checked the air filter in 40,000 km. What if the clutch is 50 km away from blowing up.

Get my point ? It shouldn't matter whether it's been down or not, and you should assume that it probably has. Do your due diligence and get it checked out by a mechanic that you trust and have it checked out as if you are looking for damage from a drop. Do that and you will get a good bike, no matter the history.

well said.

If you take a closer look you'll notice that the tail fairing is actually rashed badly and is cracked. The bike was crashed badly enough that the cover actually had to be replaced also. The Tank Cover is also damaged.

Overall it just seems shady b/c the side that went down is fully sticker bombed. While the other side is clean as it didn't get crashed on that side.

I dropped a bike ~50km/hr, replaced everything broken, and did not tell the buyer when I sold it.

If a bike has had a big crash, it's easy to tell. It usually not worth fixing a bike if the crash was big enough. Look for leaks, electrical issues, strange tire wear, paint cracks in frame.

Many bikes on kijiji have been repainted "custom" -that's not why they repainted.

I'll take a dropped and repaired bike any day over one that has been driven by an idiot at redline down the 427 every night and wheelied to death. I'm far more concerned about bikes with rebuilt engines that claim under 30K kilometres.

..and I've seen some ladies grind transmissions of bikes in a horrible way.
