Other day my buddy went down, now ill start by saying I don't ride with him. he rides like a maniac and no insance had the cbr for less then a month and suprise he crashes. He had no insurance but wasn't going 50 over so it didn't get impounded, he wants to just give it to me if I sell it and make a profit give him some money but he doesn't really care at this point I think he just wants the memories out of his garage. He says do what I want

Its a 04 cbr100rr, mostly cosmetic upgrades which are toast now lol, he was going 80+ so fairings, covers , tank, clipons done rks look straight swingarm, good the engine runs strong. he had sliders on everything but still going to get frame checked out obviously.

Options I'm thinking are:

Part out - since it wasn't looked at by an adjuster is the title still clean? Only problem with this is I assume it would take months and months to part out a bike like this?

Project - I'm 22 now, so mayb take a few years and make a cool streetfighter project and ride it when insurance is obtainable

Track it - prep it for the track, I've wanted to do this but prob taking a 1000 to the track as a novice rider prob is a recipe for disaster. But it may also be easy to sell as a track bike if i take the time and invest the money

Sell it as is, see what I can get for it, although it won't be much

or just tell him to sell it him self, not worth all the trouble....

If he's giving it away for free, you might as well take it and put it in your garage. You can then put up a post stating that your selling parts for a CBR1000 and see if anyone needs parts from it that are in half-decent condition. You never know, might make a few hundred bucks.

TRACK BIKE! Ride street and track for a while with a bike of your own, and in the mean time prep this one for down the road for track.

How much does he want for it? I am interested.

Take it and track that! Is he giving you the title papers for this piece of crap?

do this with it:

I'm gonna have to agree with n3wman. If the motor is good, you'll get almost as much for that alone as you would if you tried to sell it as is right now. So either part it, or sell it as is ifyou don't want to go throught the whole hassle.

like someone else said, how much does he (or you) want for it ?

I just talked to him the other day about it. He literally just crashed and is still nursing his wounds I don't wanna b calling him every day asking him to come get his bike for free lol I don't want to press my luck. Mostlikley will track it unless it needs some serious dough, then ill just part it out/sell it as isHow much is a smashed 04 cbr1000rr with a clean title go for these days.

Depends on what's smashed. But keeping in mind you could get a new CBR1K from the states for about 7K (as many did on this forum). I personally wouldn't pay more than 4.5K for an 04 that wasn't smashed up. Depending on whats smashed anywhere from $1200-$2000. But then again it's a Honda and those people tend to think their bikes are worth a lot more than they should be so who knows you may be able to get more for it in a fixed up state. Or you may have better luck parting it out. $1000 for the engine... $$100-150/fork if they are good, Wheels are easy $300 together, then you have the frame/title which is probably another $1000 if it isn't damaged. the rest will all be around $100 or less depending on condition stuff like signals, subframe, headlights, bodywork, tank, airbox/fuel injection system (if you don't sell with engine). You can probably make a decent coin on parting out, you just need to wait for buyers for the individual parts, or try your luck on ebay.

If I was you I would just sell it to me for $1500 and be done with it.

:( the life of the rich.. why can I have the $$ to blow like that? .. :) parts would be best OP, but track would be the most fun!

Depends on just how bad the damage is really .. if your selling it i could grab it from you before the weekends out.

find out how much you / he wants for it ... I'd be interested in picking up for the right price ... I can come anytime with my trailer to get it...

Guys, I apreciate the pms and calling dibs lol but I don't even have the bike yet, I'm not going to count my chickens before they hatch. I almost feel bad about even taking it, he's a good friend and I kno if I was in trouble hed help me. I feel like the right thing to do would be sell it for him asap and give him the cash so he can chip away at the 10000 plus in fines he is facing right now. He says he doesn't care but once the reality sets in I'm sure he will wish he didn't just give away 1500-2000 for free

well props for being a good friend, and if thats the case....selling it for parts or if you can get an all in price from someone here it might be the best option...I agree I think once it sets in with your friend, any amount of money towards his possible bills will be worthwile for him.
