BMW Toronto Winter Storage

Anyone else store their bike at BMW Toronto? Just did it for the first time this season. Called to pick it up and found out they need a week’s notice?!? They’re stored upstairs on the Motorrad floor and rotate a battery tender. Apparently they need to get it ready/check it over.

Is this a typical wait?

It is if they're busy doing other stuff.

A week is less than I expected on a cold call. Often they are so close together that getting one out of the middle is an ordeal. Many schedule release so they can easily work front to back in the pile. Once the jockey gets it out of storage, I assume they check tire pressure, oil, etc to make sure you can safely ride away. It's busy season, they wont want to dedicate a mechanic to releasing bikes from purgatory.

Sounds reasonable. I haven’t been in to see how many are sitting there, but I assumed quite a few would already have been picked up…but I guess the weather still hasn’t been that great. Although not sure how I would arrange anything other than a cold call in the future.

This is my first time ever storing a bike, so appreciate the feedback. At least I now know what to expect next time!

You could probably book an exit date well in advance but that may mean you are picking up your bike in less than ideal weather. If you dont mind paying for a tow, you could probably get it delivered early/mid march so you know it will be ready when the weather improves.

Just out of curiosity, what do they charge for winter storage?

at least you're not missing out on good riding weather. mostly been ****. looks like this week is literally all rain.

The storage contract you signed back in the fall should have laid out the retrieval process or the schedule for pickup. Failing that, I would have asked well in advance of the date I wanted it.

Storage contract? Didn’t get one to sign.

I did ask for it “well in advance” but given they store upstairs and no work needs to be done on it, I assumed it might be quicker. Not a big deal…as someone mentioned, the weather has been crap so I’m not missing much! 😂

Appreciate all the responses….sounds like a week plus is typical, so good to know for next year! Glad I didn’t wait until the weather was really nice….guessing that might have been a longer wait due to the rush for pick-ups!

That’s normal, but most probably a bike will be ready for pickup sooner.
The trick is to pickup a bike before the rush starts - got mine the same day I asked at the end of March.

Must have just missed the window….I called on April 6th 😁

I store mine as well (not there though) and they always need at least a week notice. Seems normal.

It is being stored at a dealership for a prestige brand on some on the most expensive land in Ontario. Also, people are obviously willing to pay it.

Also, insurance.

There was a guy on here who stored bikes for GTAM members. Ended up damaging one of the bikes, never paid for repairs and continually ghosted the owner. Cheap prices, but I don't think he had insurance. With that kind of business model, one dropped bike can instantly take a huge chunk out of the profit margin.
