That kiwi looks pretty interesting. Im looking at getting a FitBit but waiting for them to come down in price.

This is the key hurdle to smart watches IMO. I suspect that if Apple is working on an iWatch it will require no charging - ever.
A combination of technologies could make that feasible, such as peltier tiles http://www.cbc.ca/m/news/#!/content/1.1866106 or kinetic or solar energy, plus some clever power management might make it happen.

Perhaps in 5-10 years..but if apple are going to make anything that actually functions it would need to have a battery knowing apple it wont be a paper white display. I doubt will be see anything from them in this space tbh.

Could be, but in my imagination they could do e-ink underneath a clear OLED layer so that when it's not actually being used (which is most of the time), the e-ink image only needs to refresh every minute. A linear alternator could serve double duty as a charger and a vibrator for notifications. But this is just me dreaming, I'm far from an engineer.

Im not saying its not possible. Just not possible yet. But i do expect to start seeing some kinetic engery reclaiming phones tech in a few years.

I have a pebble, they stay charged a very long time. So long that I did not even think about it till it was just dead. I think it lasted around 5 or 6 days.

I charge my Pebble once a week. It has not gone dead on me yet so I don't know how long it could actually go.

That's typically what I do as well. I've had it die on me once and it's annoying for sure considering it goes to a blank screen!

One thing I can't complain about is the battery life though.

We shall see. This will be a defining moment for them. Right now, they are still riding on the magic of the Steve Jobs era (iphone, ipad).

We haven't seen anything new from them since. Can they continue to trailblaze without him?
Yes of course, the Iphone 5x is coming out soon, then a few months later then same phone but with different colors will come out called the 5x.2 with a brand new Icharger and port hole so everyone can continue to support apple and spend money ;)

Trail blazing lol, the only thing they are innovative is on their marketing, probably best in the world and the fact that due to the sales App developers trip over to cater to them, if you remove the apps, the Operating system is really outdated. Flame away fan boys

This will be the next thing in technology, so much potential

One thing's for sure; Apple will make a proprietary wristband system that doesn't work with existing wristbands and costs 3x more :)

Should we have stuck with ps/2 connections or scsi connections as well instead of changing everything over to USB? It is not like Apple came out with one connection type one year, then the next year changed everything. The original connector from the original iPod has been around for over a decade. The new connection is smaller, simpler and I prefer it, especially when going back to an older iPhone or iPad to connect.

Being upset because of something like this is ridiculous. There are much more valid things to be annoyed at then Apple progressing with a simple change like this. There are adapters as well, just like there were adapters for usb to ps/2.

Pebble just announced a new Pebble Steel watch (two styles, brushed stainless and a blackish metal). Thinner and a little smaller with metal bands. Also announced a Pebble App store coming soon so we don't have to go searching for apps all over the place. Nice !!
