Bluetooth watches/phone display

I have the sony smartwatch 1; after 2 warranty exchanges for a broken clip I gave up on it. I liked the touchscreen, the batt life was good for two to three days, lost phone app, but the charger would fail often. The Smart watch 2 has been out since July 2013, and clip design issue has been removed. I have not tested the Smartwatch 2 yet.

I have the meta watch, it works great, apps are pretty weak, but I was not able to decline calls from my wrist so I gave up on it.

I have tried a couple of of watches from EBay Sellers located in China and they lasted about a week before they would fall apart.

I am now using the pebble and so far it has the best batt life of 3 to 4 days. It has become the watch I use everyday.

The galaxy gear I got over Christmas was just returned to best buy because a weak batt life couldn't justify the price. I wish they would dumb this watch down a bit and remove the microphone, the camera and address batt life issues. A galaxy gear mini would become my first choice if it did exist.

I would love to have a pebble. It's the clear leader IMO as a watch that you can actually use day to day and has some nice features. Enough that it's not just a watch, but not so many that it becomes convoluted and gimicky.

Definitely the pebble. The Samsung looks great but I've read far too many negative reviews and the price is nuts compared to its competition.

IMO (and many others), "smart" watches are going to be the next big thing. It's still a very undiscovered market. +1 for the Pebble.

Ive got the Pebble and I love it. I don't use it to its full potential but it's enough for me. SMS and Call ID are great without having to take it out of your pocket. Apps aren't all that great yet but enough for me. My Smart Watch app seems to be loading the temp for 2 months now but the watch faces are great.

Plus us you can score nice ones cheap on kijiji I bought mine for 75$ from a buddy that went to Samsung.

? They are compatible with Android 4.0 upwards. Why would your buddy sell? :s

Because he's the type that buys brand new tech when it comes out....gets bored and sells it shortly thereafter for half price ;)

I'm in no rush to buy brand new tech so if he's got something good I pick it up....my previous watch lasted me for 8 years so it was time to upgrade as it was falling apart.

I still view it as a niche market, with steady, but non explosive growth. There is simply so much competition on this market from upstarts (Pebble), to chipmakers (Qualcomm), to the giants like Sony and Samsung.

Whats taking Apple so long? They used to turn the world upside down by being the first to introduce this stuff, while everybody else was napping.

I think apple is waiting. They were not the first ones on the tablet market they waited eyed the competition so they went right out with a superior product that also had the apple brand behind it. I think they will do the same and see what works in this market and what does not. They will not want to but out a product that overlaps something they already have or something that just does not fill a defined roll. Im watching the wearable tech space carefully. I really like the gear but as far and price point and battery life are concerned its a no sale for me so far.

But if we don't see the apple watch by summer..we wont see it at all.

I have a pebble and absolutely love it! works flawlessly. You can choose what apps you want it to work with, has a sweet alarm that vibrates to wake you up without waking up the other person in your bed. The display is the real winner though, its that kindle paperwhite or whatever they call it. Definately the one to get if you are in the market!

E-Paper, or Electronic Paper. It's what all the E-Readers use. Incredibly low power and very easy on the eyes. Drawbacks are it's slow to update and it's monochromatic only. Perfect for a watch.

This thread has got me thinking about getting a pebble again...

I agree -- I'm also watching things develop as I'm interested in the tech, but all current solutions just don't do it for me in terms of battery life, functionality, aesthetics and price. I am also somewhat of an 'Apple guy', so I am hopeful they'll release something once the market matures a little, that will be superior to the competition thus far.

As a side note, it will also be interesting to see how things play out between Apple and Nike, since you have to figure an 'iWatch' would replace everything the Fuelband does and more. Arguably this (aside from getting notifications) is the big item for me -- As I'd love an all-in-one unit that tells time, gives me notifications (SMS, calls, Siri, etc) as well as track things like steps, heart rate, and blood pressure, which is something most of the fitness bands don't even yet do.

Do you have a Sony tv?

I got a pebble for christmas. It is a nice watch, not a lot to do with it just yet, at least via the pebble app. It does show emails, text messages and missed calls. I like it for the email and text messages, I can quickly read without pulling the phone out and reply when I need to. It is more of a convenience then anything revolutionary at the moment. I use it with my iPhone 5S.

This thread made me order a pebble.

Its funny to see the B&W independent watch with less functions ruling this market for the moment. You can tell because its the simple things that people are using them for and allot of the advanced features that the Samsung and sony ones have will probably be dropped as this market progresses.

Personally i'm looking forward to eye glass stuff but not sure if google will be the way to go in this space

We shall see. This will be a defining moment for them. Right now, they are still riding on the magic of the Steve Jobs era (iphone, ipad).

We haven't seen anything new from them since. Can they continue to trailblaze without him?

Technology wise they never did anything special. Their interfaces are easy, their product integrate nice and are nice looking devices. It should not take a rocket scientist to drive the company forward. They don't need to invent new markets they just need to keep being strong and develop out into existing ones. truth is the entire sector is pretty boring right now processors both in PC's and mobile devices are starting to reach their peak I doubt doubt we will see anything really exciting in this space from anyone for a few years. But these micro markets for wearable or integrated tech as companion devices will provide a bit of intervention.
