Bluetooth comm suggestions?

When I was recently on a trip down south, a couple days into my trip, my Pactalk Bold helmet communicator broke. The little port on the communicator itself was just a gaping hole - somehow the port with the pins that your charging cable would mate with came free from the circuit board and came out of the unit. Lucky I had a spare unit that I bought for my wife and was able to get it brought to me by @V-Tom when he came down a few days later.

On Cardo's website I noticed that these products have a 2 year warranty and I was at 21 months! I called Cardo Support and the guy I talked to was super nice. He arranged a brand new unit for me which was sent express and I received it in 2 days. That's pretty sweet for a 21 month old unit with well over 50,000km of use on it!

They sent me an online survey regarding the customer service experience and once I submitted that, I was given a promo code for 35% off if I was interested in upgrading my JBL helmet speakers from my 40mm ones to 45mm ones. With the upgrade there's some additional stuff that makes the sound significantly better than the 40mm ones, beyond just the size of the speaker.

I used the code and just bought my upgraded speakers. Right after I bought them, on a whim I checked to see if the code would work for any of their other products, like the $600US Packtalk Bold Dual set and sure enough, it did and chops off over $200US!

If you are looking for a Cardo product and want to save some coin - then the promo code is June35%off - probably good for 10 more days:)

Enjoying my recently acquired Cardo Freecom 4X. Bluetooth 5.2

A friend purchased a dual pack at an incredible price of $375 (No HST sale) at Royal. $500+ everywhere else.

The voice commands are a game changer using ”Hey Cardo” or “Hey Siri/ OK Google” to access your phone functions.
Calls, Send texts etc.

The JBL speakers are very good or you can plug in your earphones instead.

The 4X works well with 4 or less in a group. For any larger groups the mesh tech Bold etc are better.

I enjoy my Cardo packtalk bold. Zero complaints from me.

If you want it as a communicator, go with what your buddies have, as it's a million times easier to sync with other units of the same brand.

I don't ride with people who use communicators, so went with a Sena 10R low-profile unit, as the battery pack fits perfectly in the battery pocket of my Shark helmet, so the exposed bit is much smaller. I tried a Cardo Packtalk Slim first, but the way the battery clips onto the back of the helmet didn't work with the wider rubber skirt on my helmet, so back it went. I'm actually much happier with the Sena, as it's even slimmer and hides the battery altogether. It's also got a relatively large battery (not having to hang it on the side of the helmet helps), so typically lasts a week of commuting before needing a charge. I'm rarely listening to music, though, which will obviously help the run time.

Helmet speakers will never sound musically great, as they need to overcome way too much ambient noise to work. You can make them sound okay, but I find the volume needs to be a bit high to get even close to the full range. They work well for calls and Google Assistant stuff, though. The noise suppression must be excellent, as everyone I talk to is very surprised I'm on my bike. Not that I ever talk for long, but it does the job...

Here's a pic: of the 10R:

Just got back from a 2,000 km two-up trip using a pair of Cardo Spirits, which I think is the cheapest model in the Cardo line up, and honestly, at two for $220 tax in, it was everything we needed it to be, no complaints.

I understand it's not capable of mesh-ing with 458 other motorcyclists at once but honestly, that sounds like a terrible time if you ask me. I'd rather ride my own ride and put that money saved into my tank or towards mods :)
