blackberry 10

That ad is better.

I'll keep this short to avoid any "wind bag" comments.

So I go check out a "demo" Z10 (cause they aren't even fully functioning phones). After fiddling with it for a few mins, and seeing it can't actually do anything...cause it's a "demo lite", the sales person asks what am I looking for and tried to lay in with his pitch. So I told him I was hoping to see what this could do, see if it could open excel, word, pdfs, and mark them up, alter them or even create such files.

He then takes a phone out of his pocket and slaps it on the counter and says, "then you need this"....it was a Note2. "If you need to do the work you're looking to do, the Z10 isn't the phone for you."

The Z10 is ok in person, just a little PB in feel. I'm still bewildered by the extremely slow development of the Z10 and the even slower development of the Q10.

See, I kept it short.

BB10 has Documents To Go. You should be able to edit Word, excel, and powerpoint files on the phone. Did the minimum wage flunky give you any stock tips too?

I think the issue is screen size, not OS compatability, if you are going to be marking up excel docs on the go, it should really be done with a tablet.

Hence its a Note. not a SIII

Thanks for the brevity.

Was that Rogers by chance? They flog Androids to everyone with a pulse, regardless of their needs. They're only looking after number one.

a) Docs to Go is smoked by Polaris
b) Docs to Go was quite limited on the PB especially when annotation was necessary. But yes, it kinda does the job, if your job doesn't demand too much. Docs To Go also does not export to PDF nor was there any PDF export app on BB app world aside from those that upload then email it back to you. Hardly a satisfactory work around.
c) The "minimum wage flunky" is an average young consumer with more insight than your average young or old consumer, with regard to mobile phones. Your disdain for the people who advise most people or at least assist them in selecting the next phone they will be locked into for 3 years doesn't quite appreciate the position of influence they are in, be it for better or worse. THAT is what BB are up against.
d) Both myself (hardly a flunky) and the "flunky" seem to agree. So what is the target market for the BB, "A little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing ego maniacs in a Moore's discount special"? My point is BB has a big hill to climb when the sales people aren't pushing too hard.

It was Wireless Wave.

Fido also had a "demo of a demo" but didn't care much to make any sort of pitch.

Not much hype about the Z10 is what I am finding to be honest. And I didn't have to wait to see one or stand in any line, unlike an Apple store. With only 2 demos in Square One I would have figured I might run into someone handling the phone or talking to a sales person about it. But nope. Especially as it drops tomorrow, I find that a bit lack luster.

Let's see what kind of press comes out tomorrow, er later today.

Robust lexicon by the way!

S3, iPhone5, and Z10 look like they stack up well together. My main point is that BB need to take a major step forward to recapture the business edge or domination. Right now they have no real strength, and thus no focus or niche to fall into for the sake of security in the short term at least. Hype is the next strategy and I am just not seeing signs of it. I strongly feel BB should have opened up a store or boutique and flogged the hell out of their product rather than leave it in a the hands of a salesperson who may have already relegated it!

A launch booth in SQ and Eaton's centre would have been very wise.

Every "demo" phone is fully functioning. You have to swipe out of demo mode and type in the password to get to the fully functioning phone.

Of course, if this was a true story instead of one of your Android wet dreams, the salesguy would have known this and told you.

Imagine what the headline would be if anybody really cared?

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-...ts-record-orders-at-bce-corporate-canada.html

Blackberry Z10 attracts record orders.

"BlackBerry’s Z10 smartphone has attracted record orders at Canadian wireless carrier BCE Inc. (BCE) and analysts say sales are off to a strong start in the U.K., sparking a 15 percent surge in BlackBerry’s shares yesterday.
BCE, Canada’s No. 2 carrier, said early orders for the Z10 have topped any previous BlackBerry model, while one Carphone Warehouse Group Plc (CPW) outlet in the U.K., where the phone has been on sale since Jan. 31, sold out of the model in under half an hour, local staff said..........That has gotten U.K. sales off to a “strong start,” said Peter Misek, an analyst at Jefferies & Co. in New York. He rates BlackBerry a buy. Carphone Warehouse is seeing widespread sellouts, while carriers O2, Vodafone Group Plc, Orange and EE are seeing robust demand, Misek said, citing that checks he and his colleagues have made."

I've let people in the office play with my BB10 , several of which are i4 and i5 users. The only negative i hear is lack of a button that goes straight to homepage.
Its a swipe and a swipe to get back so its not a deal breaker, I have a fair number of friends that are a lot more excited about this phone than any previous BB product.
Its going to be a home run.

Do you not think these things are starting to plateau in terms of what they can do and that people will just get excited everytime a new phone comes along? I'm waiting for the Bear Gryls Gerber version of the smartphone with a can opener, serrated saw blade and toe nail fungus remover tool.

Those early figures look good indeed.

That's worrying that the sales people at multiple vendors were not shown, instructed or allowed to unlock the demo mode. I did manage to use the keyboard which though decent but I would not say class leading. The predictive test was no better than Andorid's and though I didnt have the time to get used to it I would say the small size of the suggested words does not lend itself to one handed typing while walking ot paying limited attention to the screen. One has to really focus and concentrate on the suggested words. Only real difference between that and Android's is that their words are offered in larger size just above the keyboard. But it is great that they got their keyboard up to scratch.

Let's see how the stock plays out today. Launch in the Middle East today also?

PS looks like Rossi may be making a comeback too!

That's what I thought about laptops. What more could one have needed? Turns out we "needed" full desktop power on our phones. Who would have thought only 22 years ago, when we were all on our cutting edge 286 "ibm compatibles" that we would have or need (how many more times) the power built into our (not even then imagined) mobile phones. It wasn't even till 4 years later that pagers started to take off. There was always some brick cell phone or suitcase carphone but no one could see it's practical main stream utility. Now look where we are.

A real Bear phone would be water proof, and have a satelite back up, rescue beacon, solar charger, and survival guide firmware and literature and locally stored maps.,

I've had documents to go on all my smartphones....never once have I felt the need to edit files on my phone. I need something a little larger to make sure formatting and accuracy aren't sacrificed. My phone is for emails, texts, calls and viewing documents in that order of priority. My tablet on the other hand gets tons more use just because of the screen real estate.

played with it at bell and rogers. hate typing on the touchscreen..HATE IT. want the keyboard one ASAP.

did you try it for more than 10 mins? I thought it was supposed to readjust. I haven't decided whether I'll upgrade yet.

+1.

Been playing with one all morning. It's responsive and quick. I need the physical keyboard. This will be a good alternative for those late in the game to the Full Touchscreen market, I can see it taking the #3 spot. But I doubt it'll sway Android and iPhone folks too much...

No but I Hated it instantly. I love a regular keyboard. It's supposed to adapt but that would be too late for me. I don't want to learn to love a product I want to love it right away

i prefer a real keyboard too. (because I don't have to look at the screen).
