BikeCop

Theives don't ride off on bait bikes in the gta. They jack them into minivans.
When I came to Canada many years ago and heard you Canuks complaining about cops and about revenue I was thinking it was all overblown. Hmm well after a few years of watching and seeing with my own eyes I see it's all about revenue and getting oneself promoted. Lots of corruption with law enforcement too. Such a shame. The few bad ones really do spoil it for those other ones

If you're after thefts from condos, you have to go where the condos are... Which is outside the catchment area for the OPP. This is a project for TPS. I can try to find some info on how to deter thieves, but I have a feeling it won't be anything that we don't already know - lock steering, disc locks, GPS tracking, chain it to the floor, etc. the fact is that if someone really wants the bike, they will find a way to get it. Locks just keep honest people honest.

This isn't about deterring a bike from getting stolen, it's about preventing most bikes from getting stolen by showing criminals that the police are actively working to catch them. If the police make it likely that stealing motorcycles is going to land you in jail, it's going to drastically reduce it from happening on the scale it is currently. The police have busted one or two of these theft rings in the past thanks only to people's own effort to have trackers on their bike.

At least we know Canadians are getting to close to being unanimous with "f--- the police".

This is a legitimate question and I wish I had an answer. We're talking about a real process to catch real bad guys.

1. build a dummy bike
2. fill it to the tits with sensors and gps so you know when it moves.
3. catch whoever stole it
4. Rinse/Repeat

and not even police, why doesn't an insurance company do this? This is hundreds of thousands of dollars in claims that could potentially be prevented.

why don't I do this?

1. Insurance companies dont do this because they would make less money.. They charge us in accordance to the crime predicted.. What they make from us us always exponentially more then the risk.

The more risk the higher we pay .. In simple terms crime pays for insurance companies.

2. The police dont do it because as others mentioned there is no money in it for them

3. Why dont you or we do it? Lets do it.. Lets get 3 dozen people and 3 dozen baseball bats and take the thieves to the "wood shed".. A few of those and the word will get out and you would definately see drop in bike thefts

Such a shame. The MANY bad ones really do spoil it for those FEW other ones
I think this is more appropriate

The only thing I know about bait cars is what I've seen on tv, probably the same stuff you folks have seen. I would hazard a guess to say there isn't an appetite for bait bikes due to the perception by police brass that it would cause a pursuit with said motorcycle, and that doesn't look good and/or is too risky for the rider.

It won't work out well for you.... Not to mention the suspect may start shooting back... with a real gun.

Guys, I'm troll detecting, I don't think he is legit, I want that guy to give me exact wording of charges for both sides... ;)

For Canada:
Its actually not firearms charges either, but there is a word dangerous and prohibited in there...

For USA:
Police will ask me why didnt i use real gun and shoot their ***** off, no charges. ;)

No idea.. didn't really read his posts. I don't really care.... I don't make videos nor report people to the police.

I'd guess that a lot of cops would have to look up the exact wording on most criminal charges... for ones they don't deal with regularly anyway. I would guess lawyers would probably have to as well. I don't know, I could be wrong... but a troll, or whatever, could just as easily look them up.

It's a separate charge right? You are assaulting the other party. It's not yet a citizens arrest because you have not laid hands on them and/or commanded them to come along quietly to the police station so they are not in position to resist. From their perspective you are randomly assaulting them while they're doing stuff.

The relevant precedents that can stand in your favour for delayed forcible confinement of the thieves involves the Chinese shopkeeper David Chen.

The CCC legislation was amended to allow you to seize the thieves after the fact if you see them again especially if you have proof. Here is a news story discussing the changes around citizens arrests and that you don't need to do it immediately.

Others can help if they know what they look like.

Nothing would happen because paintballs don't freeze and the shells would be so brittle they'd explode when the bolt hit them INSIDE the marker. And even if your scenario played out like it does in your head, don't use a hobby/sport many people enjoy for your own "revenge".

This part of sentence I did not understand one bit... please paraphrase, elaborate...
And, lets say they are marbles and not frozen paintballs. and yes they do work, I shattered beer bottles with them at my friends cottage.

Ah, now I understand..... Punctuation, my friend, is a key part of everyday writing. ;)

Here, fixed:

There are probably dozens of members within this forum that could search elaws and tell you exactly which charges would apply here. Then we could ask Rob how to file the paperwork! I'm a traffic guy. I don't do gun stuff, at least not unless it falls in my lap, which usually results in a high risk takedown the ends up on youtube because there are always people around with cameras on the highway.

More importantly, I do know that if you tried this approach, you should expect to see you local ETF or tactical team in a very short time span, and you may have to replace your front door and/or underwear. Then there's the problem of what the neighbours will think... Sounds like a lot of lonely elevator rides at the condo. I don't think it would be worth it to take a couple shots at thieves with paintballs.

Your paintball gun would be seized as evidence and you would be charged with a variety of gun-related offences or assault with a weapon charge. The difference would be whether or not your paintball gun meets the criteria for a firearm. There is a minimum speed at which the projectile has to leave the barrel. It would also depend on whether or not you actually hit the person and if you caused them injury, level of injury etc.

There's a challenge for someone - how fast does it have to shoot to be considered a firearm?

For your needs you'd probably be better off with atleast a .308 :lmao:
