Bike won't start after winter storage (even with new battery)

"Jumping up and down"? You mean the RPM gauge was jumping up and down while it idled? Yeah, your ECM is going to be fried. You surely damaged it with the live jump start from the car. Get a new ECM.

Go straight to the dirt bike they are easier to fix ;) sell the SV for parts.

im going to try to trouble shoot tomorrow. if not that looks like my last bet.

Is it possible to fry the ECU from jump starting a bike with a running car even if the fuses are not blown?

As im looking online for the ECM it looks like its just plug and play. Is it that easy to install?
Also i have a after market cluster. Vapor trail tech.

I don't think you hurt the ECU unless you reversed the battery polarity or disconnected the battery when the bike was running. Thats pretty much what the manual said.
aftermarket anything is a problem for troubleshooting codes and yes all that stuff is plug and play.
make sure there is no water on the connections, do not try to clean the connectors with anything but air.

Yes, it's plug and play. Just make damn sure you disconnect the battery, charge it, then reconnect it to the bike. Install the ECM then the bike should start. Once it warms up rev it a bit. If the RPMs jump around or you get backfiring your "online" ECM could be a dud. That's the risk you take buying second hand. If you go new, get the mech to install it and blame him if anything goes wrong.

$150 whole wiring harness

Nice find!! i just messaged him.

Do i install the ECM while the battery is disconnected? then connect the batter when everything is plugged in?

How do you reverse the battery polarity?

It's all covered in that manual. memorize the whole thing tonight, the test is in the morning.

Yes.

ok thanks. im going to get a new battery tomorrow and install with new spark plug. i have to get a smaller battery because of my battery box mod because of the rear shock.

if that doesn't work i will grab the ECU off kijiji hopefully that will work.

another question. if it cranks over but doesn't fire up only if the battery is being jumped. But with a brand new battery nothing happens what could that be? lights come on and fuel pump turns on but no crank nothing

too small of a battery?
Or you have no output from your alternator and your voltage plummeted for some reason.

the aftermarket battery that i used to jump worked fine for 2 years.

i tried a brand new stock battery after and it wouldn't even turn over.

If it's brand new it almost sounds like you should be looking to make a warranty claim. Or it has not been charged yet.

... you should almost be able to weld with a brand new battery.

You did say it won't go into neutral
Can you roll it with the clutch in?

If the clutch won't disengage, or it is stuck in gear, the starter is trying to turn the engine, and the rear wheel... it can't do that. Will it bump start?

I got it to bump start 1 time with the old battery. never worked after that (prob because i jump started it with a car battery and fried it).

i cannot roll it anymore withe the clutch in. even in neutral

I can get the bike into neutral but the rear wheel keeps locking up for some reason.

What has happened to your poor bike? You put a running jap bike away and it had both electrical and mechanical problems coming out of storage?

Are we sure this isn't a purely mechanical problem? Does it have oil in it (at the proper level and not reeking of gas)?

If it is the ECM could i just plug and play a new ECM as i found some online for $300?

Sure. IF it’s the ECM.

If not you now have a $300 part that is of no use to you and you’re back to square one.

This is why diagnostics versus the “throw parts at it” thing I mentioned is preferable.
