Bike with Less Character

Those are both great addons how long is the extended warranty for?
3 Years. Good piece of mind. I don't think it's mileage rated. I'll have to check on that.
HD's usually have something similar, what did you get with your bike?

I have no idea how high the windscreens are for each bike, but at the highest setting I still look way over mine.
But it seems to create a nice bubble of calm air even at 120km and above.
That is kinda what I want to do. I don't want to look through the screen, but just over it. This way the wind deflects and gets push up around me like that bubble. I did that on my HD. The screen was too hight and buffeted, once I reduced it down the buffeting when away and I was perfectly isolated.

If you move your head up and down/forward and back while riding, you can get a good idea of where the pocket is behind the existing window and where your head sits relative to that in normal riding position. If you are happy with the flow when your head slightly lower and slightly forward, you probably want to shorten windscreen and try it more vertical (changing angle first is easy and reversible if you don't like the change).

My HD is warranted up to July 2025 as it was sold as "used" it lost the warranty from 2022 to 2023
I can add extended warranty anytime I wish as long as I have the $$$ I decided to save the money and invest it instead.

I might have to explore this idea, without my side cases I can't carry anything, thanks for the reminder! :ROFLMAO:
I have a spare set of side soft side cases/bags and a soft tail/tank bag. Oxford brand.
If you want to borrow you are welcome to them.

Amazing thanks again, I just poked around on Amazon and spotted a tail bag for $36. I think that will hold me over until the cases arrive.
No tank bag for me @mimico_polak

BTW the givi screen you have, I wonder if it's the same one I was looking at. It's 2 part with a wider bottom and narrow adjustable top.
Are you not using yours, how do you like it?

This is what I saw:

Shoot me a link, as I may need one also.

I have a tail bag but still concerned about the brake light being invisible, and I haven't resolved my side bag issue.

You've got a nice rear rack on the bike already. Perfect for strapping small dry bags or back packs down with Rok Straps or a bungie net.

Passenger grab handles also make great tie down points for strapping stuff down on the pillion seat.

I have all manner of hard cases and soft panniers for my bike, but I find it handles better if I strap stuff to the pillion seat. Mass centralization and all that stuff...

Personally on both the ADV bikes I’ve had I prefer to just leave a rear hard top-bag on for carrying stuff in rides. My side cases are still in their wrappers in the basement.
Topbox is just easier to toss my helmet/snacks/etc in for day rides than side cases plus doesn’t make getting on/off the bike harder unlike side bags. Less weight also.
I also agree with the clean-air route and use a small windscreen.

Does top box mess with high speed handling? On the ape, at 172 speeds, the top box gave you a slight gyration like you were going over an expanded metal bridge. Side bags didn't affect things nearly as much. At normal speeds, it was a non-issue.

Yes that is the Givi screen I have
Wider part on bottom and narrower part on top which is adjustable.

The DL1050 has an adjustable screen from the factory so this makes the bottom part also adjustable.

I like it as it can block most if not all the wind. I have been on the hwy at 120+kms/h with visor up and didn't not feel any wind or buffering.

1 complaint I have is the way the upper part of the screen is molded. It has these 2 rails in the middle of the screen that act as the guides to allow it to adjust. At the beginning I found them to be annoying and got in the way of my vision. Would sort of distort my vision but I more less got used to them.

If you want to see it in person or even take it for a ride before you commit to it let me know.

Slimmer profile to squeeze around rocks and trees too. And other cars if you're in a state/country that allows lane-splitting.

IME, it really depends on the placement of the cases and weight distribution.

A lot of top boxes are mounted on racks *behind* the rear wheel which can lever the front wheel up, reducing weight on it and making steering seem floaty. If the top box is mounted closer to the rear wheel, this minimizes the leverage.

My old GS had a huge 52L Givi topcase and when loaded up, my front wheel would be off the ground while on the center stand. No bueno. I ended up just putting lighter items like clothing in the topcase and heavier items in dry bags on the pillion seat. On our travels, the topcase was half empty just to maintain good handling.

Right now I am having issues with my hard side cases because the pannier racks are so far out to clear the exhaust on one side. Bike feels more unstable than I'd like in the loose, technical stuff. So between the topcase mounted behind the rear wheel and side-cases waaay out to the side, I choose neither and stick stuff on the passenger seat if I'm going to be slightly ADVenturous.

Ironic after spending $xxxx's on hard cases and soft panniers, this is what I normally do on my ADV bike for dirt trips less than a week (and no camping).

Thanks for your thoughts. My issue wasn't weight, it was wind. Empty box had the same handling issue. It is definitely behind the axle and obviously high.

@sburns

That should also work for your bike.

You will need a Givi plate fur a Givi top box.

I have one for sale.

IMO, the best setup for luggage is something that hugs the body of the bike and has weight centred over the rear wheel. I have a rackless setup on my enduro that is absolutely perfect and I am thinking about replicating that for the big ADV:

Givi Airflow is the screen to get. Don't waste time messing around with the others. Wide range of adjustment to direct the air over your head. You look over it, not through it.

Here is what I saw on Amazon

This I think will be good enough to carry water, sunscreen and 2nd pair of glasses.

When you say "rack less system" do you mean the racks you have to bolt on in order to carry those aluminum cases?
If yes, please tell me more as that is what I want to stay away from.

Nice thanks! I'll see how my Givi tail back mounts on the rack I have, and if it's no good I'll have to get something else that's better.

Sorry is that to me?

I also have something similar but slightly smaller and collapses into a seat cushion for a passenger.

I have used it when a short ride was not worth a 42L top case but needed a place for a water bottle or similar.
My SWMotech tank bank stas on my tank at all times. Non magnetic
