Best place to get PAL license in Toronto (North York) or just North of Toronto?

york region firearms academy

its just north of yonge and major mack...top notch, very well known instructors.

great decommissioned rifles, they had a winchester lever action to prove safe...was a blast.

One of the guys works at le baron, very cool to see after taking the course. Thes guys are from the old boys club. So knowledgeable about everything firearm related.

Somewhat related question for those in the know.

Are there other indoor ranges in the GTA besides the Grange that would host a small group event (10-12 people max) to introduce people to target shooting?

I've been to a couple of group shooting events in the past at the Grange (several years ago) where non-licensed people could try shooting a variety of firearms. I'm looking to set up something similar for myself and few friends in the fall.

No issues with the Grange BTW, just looking for other options if they aren't able to do something like this anymore.

I went to the site and it shows restricted and unrestricted as 2 separate courses. Do they offer it as one course? I know some ranges do a combination, so you get both at the same time.

They still offer group events. From their website:
"[h=1]Group Rate[/h]This package is mandatory for groups of 6 or more:

6 to 11 people = $90 per person
12 or more = $75 per person

Each person shall receive:
  • 20 rounds of 9mm
  • 10 rounds of 40 Calibre
  • 6 rounds of 38 Special
  • 8 rounds of 45 Calibre
  • 3 shells of 12 gauge 00 buckshot
There will be a different variety of firearms to put these bullets through."

if you're adamant on the course and getting some handling time, check out terra nova. looks like a ghetto website but I went to him and he does PAL AND RPAL in one sunday for $240 (including the $80 fee for challenging the PAL/RPAL tests). He's located near hwy-7 and 400.

That I didn't know. I'm getting mine for IPSC so I doubt they can put a rush on that =( Haha

If it's for IPSC you will need an RPAL not a PAL. That will take much longer to get than a PAL. You are looking at approx 4-6 weeks to get your certificates back after completing the courses. Then you need to apply for the actual RPAL license. That will take a minimum of 6 weeks if you are approved.

You will not be able to borrow your buddies firearms unless he is with you and transports them himself. You will have to join a club in order to be able to get an ATT Authorized To Transport before you can transport any restricted firearms.

They do both at the same time $275 taxes in and you get the course, books and test.

Booked, I have my test last week of September, I'm soooo excited. I've been waiting to do this for too long

Did mine with them few years back. I liked it.

Wouldn't they require you to have the books with you during your classes? Would they allow if it was in PDF form on an eBook reader or something like that?

I'm looking to take mine in September with these guys. http://www.yrfirearms.com/ OP, let me know if you would be down to take the course together.

Lunatic call me. I'm a member of one in Toronto.

Got mine booked as well for Sept 6-9.

Anybody shoot or plan to shoot IPSC?

I plan to in the future. Can't afford it right now as it can get very expensive. I have a 9mm and 45 already that I shoot. Waiting to purchase some reloading equipment to make my own bullets. That will keep the cost down. I am thinking of taking the blackbadge course over the winter to prepare.

After you see how long this whole process takes you'll want to turn the gun on yourself

:lmao:

I heard there are a few steps to speeden the process

still thats like trying to push a train

do the course then send out your ****, wait for it to come back to you. send it out to rcmp, they wait 28 days minimum before starting anything, then contacting the references, blah blah blah...
then you finally get a gun and cant even take it out of the house cause now you need another att to take it to the range. range wont send out your **** for att till you take another course...
anyways i did my course last september, got my license in january/february, bought my first gun in march and still havent been able to take it to the range...hahaha

anyways send in your paperwork to rcmp with registered mail, overnight or couple days and make em sign it. will cost you like 10-20 bucks and well worth it. then on day 28 call em and keep calling until they interview you.
also get your references to call in or they'll be playing phone tag till 2 years from now

I did the challenge a while ago in Edmonton for $100 and let the paperwork go through at the regular pace.

Four and a half months later the RCMP side of it was completed..... I joined a club and did the course, then, had to go to shoot with a club RSO so he could sign off on me. Indoor and outdoor so twice. Some times they want noobs to go a few times to each to be sure they know what they are doing. Being an RSO myself the guy I went with had no problem doing both in one day for me.

Don't know if every club has the same rule but it's something that makes the process that much longer.

All told it was aprox. six months start to finish by the time I had my ATT and was going to the range by my self.

It is a long process and they really don't care to speed it up if all you want to do is shoot club lvl stuff.

My question is, is all this gonna be expensive? lol

What if I end up buying a rifle to take to the range, is that going to be an easier process?

Yes, rifles are much easier. No ATT papers are required for transport. No locked cases are required either for transport. For a handgun it is mandatory for you to have joined a club in order to purchase a restricted firearm.
