Best Jacket and gloves you ever owned?

I tried the BMW Rallye Suits. Well made, but holy crap they are heavy. And not easily storeable when away from the bike. Also, the waterproof layer is under the jacket, so the outside gets waterlogged and even more heavy. All the waterproof gear I own is GORE-TEX and doesn't rely on a waterproof liner. Only problem with GORE-TEX is that the waterproofing doesn't last more than a few seasons.
Definitely heavier than most suits out there but I put that down to the protective gear; the back protector alone is almost as heavy as my Rev'it! Sand jacket. The whole "waterproof liner under the jacket" thing just doesn't work. A couple years ago, I got caught in the rain on the way to WV. It was nice and warm so I had coolmax tights and t-shirt on. I had to stand on the side of the highway, half naked, while zipping in the insert. A ouple days later, I was in a downpour for half a day and it took a full day of riding before it dried out. I bought a Rev'it! rainsuit when I got back and just throw that on now, works fine. I thought about going the Gore-tex route but I figured, from what I read, the suit woul only last me a couple years tops before it started leaking like a sieve.

It is heavy, when holding in your hand, but when its on, fits incredibly well.

As for the liner, not a good system for being waterproof, but does alright in light rain. I carry proper rain gear to throw over top when the rain starts to fall. I have had waterproof jackets before, and in the end did not like them unless it was raining. They always vented poorly and were just terrible in the hot hot summers. That is why I moved to have rain gear to throw over top when its needed. Prefer to have a jacket that can be nice and warm, or cool with great venting in the summer months to a jacket that tries to do it all.

^ My thoughts exactly. I'm not sure the rallye 3 is worth the $1000 more than the Rev'it! sand jacket and pant suit but, seeing as the insurance company covered the full cost, I figured I'd try it. I find the BMW liner more comfortable to wear on cooler days; the material is very nice.

Whoah! You don't spare the bread, do you? Good on ya, I say.
:)

Question was, what's the best, not the cheapest :D. And you'll be amazed, how much you can save by ordering these gears directly from Germany, literally thousands of $$$ just on Stadler or Rukka jacket/pans. NA distributers are pure thives when it come to real quality (not China made, like Rev-it) gear! :(

Lol. Someone has done their homework

I like my Teknic Freeway 2012 jacket. With the liner it's warm down to 5c, without it and the vents open, I'm good to the low 30's. Above that and it gets toasty, but that's the same with any jacket that's not mesh. Supposed to be waterproof (Teknic gives a lifetime waterproof warranty, don't know how useful that really is though). I've been in a couple thirty minute downpours and stayed dry, have yet to be in an all day rain storm with it. Lots of pockets which is always nice. Both the regular collar, and removable storm collar have magnetic snaps which is great. Biggest downside is the inside liner material gets sticky when hot, and gets cold quick. The waterproof layer (on the outside) is built into the jacket so there's little to take on and off except for the storm collar and cold weather liner

I have about 20k km on mine and the zippers still work like new and the velcro is tight.

Had a little tumble with it last fall, came out with a fractured forearm and fractured or bruised collarbone. Jacket was fine and I didn't have a scrape on me outside of the above. Probably more the nature of my fall than the jacket itself, but worth mentioning.

Who do you order from in Euro? have a weblink?

Who do you order from in Euro? have a weblink?

I usually order from www.biker-land.de or www.fc-moto.de , whoever has a better price at that time. I also had a good experience with www.bikersdiscount.de . Please, note, that the prices on their website include VAT, but they'll subtract 19% off of the total price when ship to Canada. The shipping is usually 15 - 35 Euro and I receive the package in 5 - 7 days. Way faster (and cheaper) than orders from US! Go figure...

Would you be able to recommend Southern Ontario dealer for Rallye 3 or BMW motogear in general?

Edit: scratch that. Online US pricing brutal, expect Canadian in store pricing brutaler.
Rallye 2 is not as expensive as 3...Myself? Pretty happy with Rev'it Cayenne Pro and Tourmaster heated leather gloves.

The Cayenne Pro was what I originally wanted but I don't like the ceramic coating they put on the elbows and knees; it scratches everything it come in contact with (I had a Ducati 900 at the time of my Rev'it! purchase). I loved everything else about it though.

Go for newer model of Rev'it or Held then

Your title says "best",the thread says "favourite".Hmmm,my favourite jacket and glove combo would be my old Belstaff Trialmaster jacket and deerskin touring gloves. The best combo would be my Dainese laguna Seca suit (i know,i know, but it's saved me a few times) and Motogp gloves.

Shameless plug:
http://www.gtamotorcycle.com/vbforum/showthread.php?165495-Rhyno-Touring-Jacket

I know I might be biased, but I gotta say I was really impressed about this jacket even though it was not from a major brand. I've ridden in downpours with this jacket and the fabric was waterproof. The only problem was when rain falling "bucket a drop" water gets in the gaps around the neck. When you are crouched down on a SS, the neck portion of the jacket act as a scoop as you ride thru the rain.

I presently have the Tourmaster Transition 3.0 and I must admit the Rhyno is a much better jacket. However, its unfair to judge a jacket which originally sells for $350 to one that sells for $225.

The jacket also has vents for warm climate & an extra layer for cold.

Klim Badlands Pro jacket. Fully Gore-tex, waterproof jacket with great venting. No need for a waterproof liner as the jacket itself is water tight and yet breathable. 3/4 length and the kidney belt are fantastic features for touring.

Had lots of gloves over the years nothing really jumps out but I do like the Dainese X-ILE gloves for touring. The split knuckle protectors makes them more comfortable that ones that don't split. They are certainly not the most protective glove but they are comfortable and have a good fit and feel.

picket up a badlands jacket today from Dual Sport Plus. Been reading lots of great reviews of the jacket. Looking forward to actually trying it out in march, or maybe earlier if we can an early spring

Bristol jacket, Canadian made, exceptional quality and all black. I can wear it off the bike and not standout in a crowd.
Belstaff trialmaster for my poking around, real Belsatff not the new Belstaff thats a fashion house. Its actually going up in value so it may be retired.
Held gloves, very comfy

Only problem with GORE-TEX is that the waterproofing doesn't last more than a few seasons.
I did not know this... Does a Nik Wax application help? I was wondering why my jacket doesn't seem as waterproof as it did the first season. I was going to Nik Wax it this year and see how much that helps.

I wear Dainese Air-Tex gloves. They're very comfortable in hot weather, but probably not as protective as leather with armor.
I have the same gloves for city summer riding and they are so comfortable. by far my favourite for really hot weather.

I have not found an armoured glove that isn't made of leather that I like yet. I have the Motoport Kevlar gloves, but they are very slippery on the levers. Suggestions for a non-leather, armoured glove (gauntlet)?

Goretex should be fine for a few seasons as I thought the way it worked was mechanical ( pore sizes and a difference in humidity either side of the membrane) rather than chemical. The problem with goretex is that the pores can clog and you can lose breathability and perhaps the pores can stretch and allow water in. The DWR coating on most goretex jackets does need replacing every now and then though. Haven't had a problem with my MEC goretex jacket and I've had it for years.

I should add that I have a hein gericke goretex jacket and pants that I got from eBay. The jacket is great but it does get heavy after a downpour as the top layer soaks up the rain. I stay dry though. My fave pants now are triumph adventure pants though. I'll never get any jackets or pants with removeable rain liners though. Too much hassle, I have a one piece berik lightweight rain suit for any downpours in hot weather and it packs down really small. Had to get my brother to send it from Europe as I couldn't find one in North America and this thing had won awards in the UK.
