I have a Shadow Phantom, used you should be able to pick up a good one between 5-8. Personally I do like the bike, but if I had it to do again, I might have gone the Harley route. I wasn't really bike shopping when I went into the Honda dealer and bought this. Had I been shopping I would have done the research and found out that the HD 750 was cheaper and if I recall outperforms slightly. Vulcan 900 might have also been a consideration.
I will say that you will typically want more motor on the cruisers though, it only took me one or two seasons before I was wishing I bought more bike.
Edit: If you will be doing long rides of an hour or more, avoid entry level cruisers and get a mid range bike. Otherwise check beforehand if an aftermarket seat is available, expect to spend 700-1000 for a good seat that won't hurt your ass after an hour.
