Oscar winner Ben Affleck will play Batman opposite Henry Cavill as Superman in the highly anticipated Man of Steelsequel, slated to hit theatres in July 2015.
Zack Snyder, who directed the first Batman-Superman movie and will direct the sequel, expressed his excitement Thursday about casting Affleck in the Warner Bros. production.
“Ben provides an interesting counterbalance to Henry’s Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter but retains the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne.”
Affleck has a history in the superhero genre. He previously starred as the blind Marvel hero Daredevil in writer-director Mark Steven Johnson’s 2003 film of the same name.
Word of the union of two of DC Comics’ most iconic heroes first surfaced in July at Comic-Con International in San Diego, where Snyder told a panel that the sequel will not be adapted from Batman: The Dark Knight Returns.
Returning Man of Steel cast members include Amy Adams as Lois Lane and Laurence Fishburne as Perry White. Diane Lane also will reprise her role as Martha Kent.
What do you think of this casting? Remember what the world thought of Anne Hathaway as Catwoman? She ended up owning the role.
Here's hoping that Ben can do the same.
