Oscar winner Ben Affleck will play Batman opposite Henry Cavill as Superman in the highly anticipated Man of Steelsequel, slated to hit theatres in July 2015.

Zack Snyder, who directed the first Batman-Superman movie and will direct the sequel, expressed his excitement Thursday about casting Affleck in the Warner Bros. production.

“Ben provides an interesting counterbalance to Henry’s Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter but retains the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne.”

Affleck has a history in the superhero genre. He previously starred as the blind Marvel hero Daredevil in writer-director Mark Steven Johnson’s 2003 film of the same name.

Word of the union of two of DC Comics’ most iconic heroes first surfaced in July at Comic-Con International in San Diego, where Snyder told a panel that the sequel will not be adapted from Batman: The Dark Knight Returns.

Returning Man of Steel cast members include Amy Adams as Lois Lane and Laurence Fishburne as Perry White. Diane Lane also will reprise her role as Martha Kent.

What do you think of this casting? Remember what the world thought of Anne Hathaway as Catwoman? She ended up owning the role.
Here's hoping that Ben can do the same.

I puked in my mouth

Not saying Ben is not suited to this role but no one can top Christian Bale. He was exactly what the comics described as Batman/Bruce Wayne.

But like you said Anne Hathaway surprised everyone as catwoman, I'm hoping as well that Ben would do the same.

Sh|t, watch them re-boot Robin with Matt Damon.. LMFAO!

^ it'll be a true love story hahaha

I don't understand all the hate for Ben Affleck.

Sure the guy made a few ****** movies, but those were back in 2003. I think it's time to let it go. He's blossomed as a great director, directing some great movies (Gone Baby Gone, The Town, and Argo.) Those are pretty serious flicks!

If anything, his career has gotten better as time as progressed but people just love to hate the guy. I for one welcome him and think he'll fill the Bruce Wayne side perfectly. He may need to step up the game to fill the Batman side of his character though but this is a great opportunity to blow the critics away.

If he can be successful as a director, then he sure as hell knows how to direct actors so hopefully he can use his own advice and give us a performance worth watching!

I would pay good money to see Ben Affleck try to do Christian Bale's Batman voice. Very good money.

I was surprised but I'll wait to see how it comes out. Hell I didn't think Daniel Craig would make a good Bond but he ended up being great for the role IMO.

No way should an actor play as two different super heroes. This moron was already Daredevil, and that bombed. Now he is going to try Batman? Give me a break. Same goes for Russell Crowe when he played Maximus Meridias, then he goes ahead and becomes Robin Hood. The only other ********* that would sink to this level would be Nicholas Cage. Apparently he wanted to be Superman so damn bad, but had to settle for Ghost Rider with a hair piece.

I AM IN TEARS!! :lmao:

But seriously, Ben Affleck as Batman....umm no.

and they need to let it die....I mean, they are "rebooting" the damn franchises faster than sequels come out!!
