A friends current house lost its garage and part of the roof in the 85 tornado. That was long before he owned it.I remember the big one in Barrie, 1985. We were heading north on the 400 at 89 when it passed over Barrie. It tore up the old raceway, and up the hill to Allendale. 40’ trailers got tossed over the 400, you could see upside down cars, trees got stripped bare (looked like winter) and roofs were peeled off buildings and houses.
There was another small one in 95, it formed downtown then went along the south shore of Kempenfelt bay. 2 large cruisers at the govt dock snapped their lines and blew out into the lake.
That would suck. No good place to go. My kid was at camp in a forest today. I haven't fully explored the property but it seems to be a similar situation. Some light stick frame buildings and lots of trees. Huddle up and hope for the best. Luckily nothing bad developed where they were.Lived through a tornado, those pics are horrifying.
I was in a 1 room hunting cabin in a forest in Huntsville on 5 acres, no power.
Absolutely terrifying - sounded like a freight train running by the door.
That's literally all I could do 'huddle up and hope for the best'. Good description as I had no other option. Good day riding, not such a good sleep. That would suck. No good place to go. The eye-witness accounts of this one are interesting. I have heard multiple independent stories of looking out the window and everything in their backyard blew away. I haven't heard the typical stories about a freight train bearing down. Maybe it has to do with wind speed or size of the rotation?
These houses were reasonably new (layer of insulation over the building exterior). I was surprised at how many had their roof framing detach from the walls.
Friends sent us video from their house in Alliston….no tornado but scary as f considering how it was blowing there.A little too close to home. Feel bad for the owners. Glad to hear no fatalities.
Is your tree down yet? High winds and hurting tree is not a good combination.Friends sent us video from their house in Alliston….no tornado but scary as f considering how it was blowing there.
Called neighbours at cottage in Wasaga no issues there.
Nah. That’s why I called the neighbour to see if the cottage is squashed. It’s not. All good still. Is your tree down yet? High winds and hurting tree is not a good combination.
