Barclays Premier League 2011-12 Thread

Harsh....scousers will hunt you down and ask for your last ciggy and then rob your house.

I find Man U fans worse....most I meet over here only support them as they're the only team they really know about.

There is no such thing as a Man U fan; only people who buy the shirt because everyone else is doing it. I know quite a few "huge Man U fans", none can name more than a couple players on the club. One guy in particular was particularly indignant when he went on and on about a new guy on the team who was destined to be a great in the EPL for years to come; Ryan Giggs. Ryan Giggs? I said "the guy is already a great and has been with the club for twenty years". I was told I had it all wrong. Mmm, okay. Guy who works for me has a bunch of Man U shirts but hasn't actually watched a game, ever. Plastic fans.

Basically, when I hear someone talking about football is a Manu fan, I assume he doesn't know football from cricket. LFC fans, while being somewhat blinded by their past, finally have something to look forward to.

Oh, hey, wasn't Rio Ferdinand charged by the FA over rascist tweets back in July? And as far as cheaters, Suarez will never be at Nani's level.

I've been a staunch supporter of Wenger but even my faith is starting to waver now. :(

I actually think Wenger is the best manager in football. He can't buy big names yet helps create them within his own club. I have to respect the club's decision to run the team within a strict financial framework. Other clubs that have traded debt for wins (Man U and Barcelona are two that come to mind) are running into major financial difficulty. If the new "fair play" rules impacts them onfield to the point that they miss Champions League play they'll both be in BIG trouble as neither owner is capable of absorbing the financial impact.

How many times you been to Anfield?

In fact I'll give you an easier question. How many football matches you ever been to?

Never been to England; I'm waiting for a bridge to be built so I can ride there. I also didn't go to the LFC match in Toronto, I thought the price was rediculous to watch squad players and the youth team play another team's squad players and youth team.

In England, I am told by a few English friends of mine, that ones allegiance to a team borders on religion. Here in North America it seems to be quite a bit different. Myself, I enjoy watching football and I enjoy watching LFC. When I was a kid it would have been serious business but I'm what one would call "middle aged" so sports, in general, isn't life and death for me the way it is for others. At the same time, it seems a lot of people around here (North America) look at the EPL standings and base their allegiance on what they see. Amazingly, "hard core" Man U fans turn into "hard core" Chelsea fans and now I've seen Manc jerseys around. Who the heck supports those guys? Seriously. My shot at plastic fans is based only on observations outside of England.

My opinion of a true hard core fan is a buddy of mine from Bolton. Fans of clubs considered "mid table" are to be truly admired. How hard is it to go into every new season knowing you can get relegated? Newcastle fans are another club with a true following. LFC I think had a lot of plastic fans when they were winning through the '70 and '80. It's cyclical, today's winners will be usurped by a new group tomorrow and the plastic following will buy new shirts. I'd rather not get into an LFC vs MAN U thing. Way too much vitriol and bad blood there, none of which I condone.

I do think the rise of mega rich owners and the building of superclubs is a detriment to the game. I can't imagine what will happen to Chelsea when Abramovich leaves. Worse yet, Man U is owned by leveraged buyout artists trying to compete with sheiks. If that house of cards collapses, the team's core fans will be left with nothing. Find some Glascow Ranger fans and ask them how it feels to try and compete financially on an uneven field. It almost happened at LFC with "the cowboys" in charge. But that's another topic of conversation. I'd love to hear what you (fiery) has to say on that.

Anfield twice
Prenton Park once
BMO to watch Everton & West Ham
Rogers Centre to watch LFC once

Ouch lol that hit the bone

United have NOT traded debt for wins. The Glazers took over in 2005. Prior to the takeover United turned a profit every year and paid dividends to shareholders. As well as that they were able to attract and pay some of the best players in the world. I'm pretty sure United won the odd trophy or two before 2005. And, despite the mess and debt the Glazers have inflicted on United, they still more than meet proposed Financial Fair Play rules. Just another example of you spouting bollocks about stuff you don't know about. It doesn't do any harm to research what you're attempting to sound knowledgeable about before posting you know.

All I've heard from you so far is recycled and misunderstood anecdotal bollocks. You know less about the Premier League, FFP and football in general than my wife.

Why don't you talk about what you know about. Talk about what you see on the pitch and what you know for sure about the club you follow. I don't want to come over as some football snob but you really know nothing about what you're posting.

And for the record I started watching Man United when I was about 6 or 7. At that time they were crap and even spent a time in the second division. They didn't really get into their current winning ways till 1992. By that time I'd endured 20 years of failure and goading by real Liverpool fans.

I actually have jersey's from all 3 clubs. I liked them all at different times. I'm not from England and I don't need to support a club because of where I live.

I like ManU when Van Nistelrooy, Beckham etc were on the team. I'm a chelsea fan because of Drogba, and i have Man City jersey when Robinho joined the team even though he sucked when he played there.

I think its stupid to follow a team simply because you live in or near the city. I'm not sure why there are so many Toronto Leafs fans or TFC fans when they continue to loose.

1. Too late, just like any United fan you think your word is law when it comes to all football.
2. Oook? I've been to Anfield 18 times, Old Trafford once, Wembley twice, The Emirates once and Goodison Park twice. And I'm only 20. I don't see how YOUR anecdotal bollocks is any better than his? I've yet to see LFC win the league but I've seen the Europe victories and the Cup victories. We have plenty to cheer for and be hopeful for. If you're suggesting that supporting a club out of its prime is stupid then I would suggest everything homme said is right re. plastic fans.

As far as Suarez, hate him all you want. I loathe Wayne Rooney with a burning passion because he's a raging prick, he's been known to play dirty at times and because despite all that he goes out and scores goals. You hate Suarez because...oh right, same reasons.

Did you even read what you posted? lol.

Strictlye, my thing about plastic fans is about people who go on and on about being a hard core fan of a particular team then jump on another team's bandwagon when the going gets tough. Myself, I love Liverpool but I'm not going to go all "fiery254" on anyone that isn't. Furthermore, I like Drogba, I'd love to see him in an LFC jersey; pure finisher and a heart of gold.

Wow from 4-0 down to 7-5.

Cheering for Arsenal this weekend to beat those wankers from Manchester ;)

Chelsea vs Man U match up again today in League Cup action.

The game doesn't really mean that much, but......

Not surprising to see ManU, ManC, and Chelsea at the top. Any one of those three can take it. None seem to be that much more potent than the others.

Liverpool are really laying an egg this season though, aren't they?
