An Ontario judge was moved to tears while delivering a life prison sentence
I don't believe it's very professional of judges to have emotional investments in the cases over which they preside.

don't they still hang people in singapore? crime rates must be low there. canada should adopt hanging.
just kill him!!! it will be a waste of money to keep him in jail
I really don't care about the crime rate or the waste of tax payer's dime, I'm more concern about our gene pool. Imagine this guy has 3 children, you know how much stupid ppl there will be in 100yrs??
He was a car-jacker and a thief! 150 times!!
Try to use your imagination enough to factor in how many near misses/partial hits happened before he finally killed someone.
Doesn't sound minor to me.
I believe in the death penalty

do you work for the media? "minor conviction" never said anything about minor accidents. The question should be asked why did it take 150 convictions to finally give him a major conviction.

Yea, all life sentences for those who got charged with enough evidence to prove their guilty r a waste of resource, especially for rapists and serial killers... such as that Barnard guy!
Executing a person in any sufficiently humane legal system costs more than keeping them behind bars for life. If you think the way they do it in Russia or China is the way to go you should live there.
- Capital punishment is not cheaper.
- Death penalty is not a deterrent. It never was.
- You cannot rehabilitate an executed person if he/she is eventually proven innocent.
- There is no way to insure an innocent person will never be convicted.
- Someone has to pull the trigger, flip the switch, etc. That person is a legally sanctioned murderer.
What other arguments for capital punishment are there? Whatever you can come up with, rest assured it's already been thoroughly refuted. Death penalty belongs in middle ages, period.
If you think lifers got it easy just check what a life in a Supermax prison looks like. I would rather let them execute me twice than spend the rest of my life like that.
I don't see how chemical injection or electricution can be more expensive than keeping an animal alive. Maybe I'm just oblivious to that.
You speak of death penalty like if its barbaric and only has a place in developing countries & the dark ages. Surprisingly some states in the US still practice this.
My main beef with these criminals are like Homolka, who continue with their lives while the family members of the victims have to put their loved ones 6 ft under.
As for your question of who would be the executioner? Put the switch in victim's families hands. I'm sure they'll find a way
You just didn't bother to research the pros and cons of capital punishment. Google is your friend.
It is barbaric. The fact that some US states still practice it is not an argument against it's barbaric nature but an argument for declaring those state's penal systems as barbaric.
Speaking of states, the statistics in those that had abolished and re-instated the death penalty pretty much completely refute one of the "strongest" pro arguments - the so called deterrent factor.
If you hate living with a judicial/penal system that allows monsters like Homolka to walk free, imagine how would you feel if you or someone close to you was convicted and executed while innocent. Innocent people get convicted fairly regularly in any system, but they get executed only where there is a death penalty. Remember Romeo Phillion, the fellow that was released after spending 32 years in prison for a murder he did not commit? How would you exonerate/rehabilitate/compensate him if he was executed?
An eye for an eye? The very core of what I consider barbaric. I've never heard of a civilized society that would allow victim's family to act as the executioner. I wonder why's that?
Guys like the Norwegian Kill, should face the firing squad

What if i speak on a emotion vs reason term, will your logic be strong enough to over come your emotions if ur family member or close friend fell victim to someone like Paul Bernardo ?
Cuz my point of view is no where near ur generousity towards that kinda ppl.
The main reason I bring up the US talk was, you mention the China/Russia talk. My point is, your discussion on Russia/China is "invalid"
I believe that people who were doing such heinous crimes and were witnessed by many, should face the death penalty.

Emotions over reason is the main reason that innocent people are convicted. Often through false IDs.
