Automated speed enforcement ticket

Agreed.

Hwy. 2 is posted as 80 along here and that's really fast enough given the scattered residential component and farm vehicles presence.
I'm not going to argue about 80 there, but we all know of places like elizabethville where they drop it to 60 at the bottom of a huge valley for two roads and four driveways. Very little activity there but lots of fishing by the police. I would be ok with 80 through there but almost zero tolerance enforcement. Just like your place, you don't want people blasting through at over 100.

I'm not anti-speed camera. I am very anti-politician. If you want to control speed and increase safety, step one is road design. Done properly, the numbers on the signs barely matter.

Difficult to retrofit but ...

Roundabouts. In residential neighborhoods, most junctions should be roundabouts. (See Europe.) Makes everyone slow down ... doesn't force everyone to stop unless traffic warrants it. Can't blow through the junction at 80 km/h (happens on my street, too) unless you want to go airborne.

Roadside trees and hedges. Makes the road look narrower. Makes people drive slower. Side benefit is that hedges can control where pedestrians can step onto the road by discouraging from doing it someplace they shouldn't. Bicycle path and walkway on the other side of the hedge ... separated from the cars. Encourages people to walk or cycle on the cycle path or walkway rather than on the road. And it controls noise.

Not all options are appropriate everywhere, of course.

I haven't seen it but I would be interested in the possibility of a mini-roundabout. Basically an unfriendly hump in the centre of the existing intersections (trucks would need to go over it) and cut back the four existing points. Basically a chicane for those going straight through and a very tight turn for those going left. Should be plausible in the existing ROW.

There are some more radical ideas floating around:

In the Netherlands, transport planner Hans Monderman has pioneered a new method which involves removing traffic signs, lights and in some cases, road markings. This concept has successfully been tested in the small Dutch town of Drachten, which has had traffic lights removed. Other changes included the installation of a children's playground in the middle of one of the roads to force drivers to slow down.

Lots of those in parking lots and side streets in Australia

Have seen those in Oakville before. Pretty cool.

You can flow traffic properly, AND you can jump it if you choose to do so. But there’s a solid wall in the middle…

As for our roundabout it’s currently being painted different colours for fun.

This is our removal of the roundabout and replacing it with stop signs. Basically now I have 2 90deg turns with stop signs instead of entering the traffic flow and continuing.

EDIT: And just to be clear...this is apparently TEMPORARY so they may dig it all up again after the study...and then return it back to original condition. Apparently there is a 'park' in the middle...overgrown weed garden is what it is. And for dogs to poo without owners picking up after their pets.

Did they shoot it with a cannon? Based on the rust in the crumpled top, the major damage may be from a previous assault.

I haven't looked into it but I suspect with some effort you could have active blocking of photo radar. Either a jammer that turns on when it sees a signal (not ideal as that should be easy to detect/prosecute) or more likely a light/phase change cover that reacts to the radar (or maybe the flash if spectrum is distinct). Hell, as a first cut, use a commercial camera flash set to trigger on flash and it may go off and blind the camera (or completely wash out your plate depending on which way you aim it).

Does this somehow negate that you were still going 30% over the speed limit ?
Pay the $60
When was 52 KPH considered fast?

Why are the 400 series highways still at 100 KPH? If you do 100 KPH, you're likely to get yourself killed!

It's BS Road Piracy.

Plate blockers / flippers will be on sale again to combat this extortion.

Ours went to sleep every Friday afternoon and then woke up again on Monday morning...now it's gone. Guess the Region of Peel no longer needed it there, or someone actually stole it.

It was stupid, but because it was next to a school it made sense to me. However, it's ludicrous to install it without actually anchoring it to anything.

Safety ... more like revenue generation.

I rarely see a pedestrian on that road. Those houses are probably the core of the "save OUR park" committee. They want everyone else to stay away from their neighbourhood entirely.

For ones that are semi-permanent (eg parkside drive) pouring a base makes sense. Most of the other locations are only there for a few months and then move on. If they chained it to existing infrastructure like a light post, they would likely end up repairing light posts when people knocked the cameras over with their bumpers.

Considering they get rotated...just install a concrete pad and then it's good to be used for future use.

I also thought that the camera within the enclosure gets rotated, not the actual enclosure. This way people think there's a camera in there, and at least it has some effect on speeds there.

Redlight cameras rotate the camera but leave the housing. Speed cameras seem move the housing too.
