Auto Insurance Fraud Raids

I saw the news blurb on it last night. A spokesperson for the community said it was shedding an unfair light on their community in that many of the people were told by the ringleaders that it wasn't a big deal. Free money, no questions asked and they thought it was OK?

One problem with immigration is that they can't judge or profile by race, country of origin etc. If a person comes from somehwere that accepts peeing anywhere you want they can't pull them aside and say it's a no-no in apartment elevators. Everyone or no one gets the drill.

Seems that many of the people, who were recruited as stiffs, never received a cent from it. Funny; who would have thought there was no honour among scammers?

The Star named 9. He isn't one of them.

That's because he was the rat that gave up the whole gang to save himself, another common trait of such individuals. ;)

I agree. The jig was up when that dash camera footage came to light. With pubic outrage the police had no choice to get these guys.

From what police said this action involved paper fraud, with there generally being no actual collision involved, so it's still 'wait and see.'

Or a minor collision with a claim of major injuries. Claimants embellishing their injuries to bilk more money from the insurance companies. Or having "jump in" claimants where the people claim to have been in the vehicle as a passenger.

The police statement indicated that, in many cases, the vehicles would show up at reporting centres with obviously old damage and rust, indicating that a collision never took place.

Yes but look at some of the arrested. They're paralegals. They were submitting insurance documents with knowledge that they were false. That probably included claims for housekeeping never performed. They have rosters of people who will claim they did the housekeeping if an insurer calls. Meanwhile they just get a kick back. Or people who make false claims for lost wages. Meanwhile they're working for cash under the table.

The staged accidents were just the tipping point.

This bust has been in the works since 2009. I highly doubt Ragu was much of a factor if at all although his timing couldn't have been worse.

But if his name ultimately does come up, it would go a long way to explain why the cop wasn't interested in seeing the video.

There are a lot of communities who need to shed a spotlight inward and stop turning a blind eye to ongoing issues because the publicity would make them look bad.

Glad these scammers were caught. I hope they get many many more.

You don't understand. Statistics and profiling are only to be used if they benefit the downtrodden.

I hear the count is up to 130 now. I'm still in for a possible payout.

And you guys thought we were being racist:

LOOK AT THE NAMES.

Then look at the home towns of half of them, looks like I was right about Markham!

I used to know a Persian guy that used to be involved in these type of scams. Have also known of Chinese and Russians that were supposedly involved in this kind of stuff.

It's not isolated to one particular ethnic group. Remember that this is only one ring that was busted, I'm sure there are many more.
