Do yourselves a favor and let it go, you guys aren't gonna come to an agreement here! Its pretty obvious your all wasting your time trying to convince each other.

Believe what you want, and if you don't agree with someone just let it go! You will be saving yourself from a big waste of time.

I wouldn't say that it was a complete waste of time. The original thread is massive and did contain a number of well thought out posts.

You are absolutely right. If you have been following my history with this thread and the other one, I never wanted to convince anyone of anything. I just wanted to expose the bigots and torment them!

Well said though. But there will always be intolerance in the world, and especially in GTAM!

Totally agree, but it's not going to happen. I'm as guilty of it as anyone.

It's not so much that people want to convince other people - I can't think of a single instance on any forum I've ever been on where someone, when presented with something contrary to their beliefs, says "oh, that's interesting, thanks for that". So understanding that we're not changing anyone's mind (even when it comes to something as simple and motorcycle related as riding in the rain) it turns into an exercise in reinforcing our OWN beliefs. Which is not as noble as a real discussion (although arguably [ha] still a valuable exercise)
 
300 and more pages. 79000 Views I don't know how many posts but it must have been thousands and now it ends up trash?

How can you not get personal when discussing religion? To some, that is the essence of their being.

Anyway... what did you guys do? What did I miss since I was last here yesterday? I bet it was Edders who got the thread canned... he did call us a bunch of a-holes sometime last week.

This thread will end in trash too. Religon is to taboo a suject to really discuss. The Atheists already have a pre conceived notion that anyone that disagrees with them is "less sophisticated"

I don;t mean that as an insult either. Its just the way the very scientific people rationalize and make arguments, for them there is no outside or unknown variable. They refuse to acknowledge even a slight possibilty of anything other then their scientific based view. Odd because science is always evolving.

For those that beleive, it is the very core of who they are and what they base their daily descions on. This group are like horse's with blinders on. Not meant to be an insult either, its just that their beleif system does not allow them to even question validity of other ideas. Odd again, as it was their curiosity to find something to belong too that eventually brought them to organized religon.

There was a quote that someone said, I don;t know the author or the exact quote so I will try to "paraprase"

For a beleiver, no proof is needed, for a atheist, no proof will ever suffice.

1) you're wrong.
2) if you want to discuss religion, come on over to talkrational.org. Take the pressure off Paul.

Thats the beauty of organized religon, there is no scientific proof available.

Its all subjectional, if someone hears "their respective" God talking to them, I can;t prove they did not.

Either way I don;t care. I am not out to spread my ideals or to change anyones mind. Let people beleive what they want.

Probably the best post so far in any of the related threads.

Why are you guys trying so hard to convince someone of something? If you're an atheist, why would it matter to you if another religious person dumped a god that doesn't exist? And if you're a religious person, what do you gain by convincing an atheist to believe in god?

I'll back up oomis on this one - this debate (and the nastiness of it) says much more about the people making the arguments than it does about the point in question.

Oh, and I don't know why it went to trash. I only started following it from yesterday, and although there was namecalling and insults, it wasn't any worse than most other threads on GTAM.
