Art...

Getting a living wage for doing something you enjoy and self assess as world class is silly. Want to buy some of my cousin's macrame?

I don't believe in arts grants but do believe in teaching art appreciation (Plus music, food etc). If people are taught appreciation, the market will adjust and balance out. Unfortunately the entire situation is subjective as are the experts in the trade.
Some friends are skilled and lucky enough that they have managed to make their living through music or theatre. They aren't on the easy ride public money dumpster fire program though. They are in the putting in hours, working their ***** off and touring program.

While I understand the concept of arts grants, far too often they are a steaming pile. For instance the $470K light post in calgary (https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calg...rprised-by-reaction-to-installation-1.1991453

) or the $1.8M we paid for "voice of fire".

Not really art per se but sometimes you can fill space by displaying a collection. Being a gearhead these old gages give me as much pleasure as most paintings I view. Gages.jpg

You seem like the kind of guy that would have a steam whistle as a dinner bell. I've thought about it but they don't sound right on air and I don't feel like maintaining a steam boiler (and insurance would hate me).

I painted "voice of fire" on one of my doors at the old house, didn't get sued. Also painted Spider-man in my eldest's bedroom.
If Yoko Ono can make art, anyone can.

Got bored and did this for my wife’s birthday, in a hurry.
