I think maybe you should try the latest 3rd generation Super Duke.

It's a different animal. Very smooth throttle, massive but manageable power. I have no complaints, they've turned it into an iron fist in a velvet glove. If you're a big stunter you might hate the fact that they went to a shock linkage finally instead of a direct one. Doesn't want to stand on end every time it hits a cigarette butt anymore.

I had the gen 3(pre electronic suspension), just didnt like how angry/harsh it always felt and sounded

Also didnt like that 2nd gear was always extra vibey making me want to short shift into 3rd
 
Seller # 4 is being all weird and pushy

I met him a few days ago in person to see the bike, gave him a small deposit, our schedules are unaligned, he feels like he HAS to sell the bike tomorrow, Im just like bro, chill, if you cant meet me at the bank tomorrow, no worries, I can meet you in a few days when you have more free time.

Now hes going on a rant in my DMs, good times

Which bike is it for? KTM Duke or Tuono?

I can honestly say that neither of these problems are part of my bike. In fact, I find most of the throttle choices to be too soft for my long-standing use of short throttles and so I have mine set up aggressively even on everyday rides. I find that the STREET throttle setting is soft enough that the bike feels like it has half the power it can provide, until I really turn the throttle open.

Also, don't find it has bad vibes until you're in 5th gear @ 4300 which is my usual cruise speed of uhm... you know. It cleans up at highway speed but even those vibes aren't sharp, they're just stereotypical sport twin vibes that every big twin I've ridden has under about 5,000 rpm. It makes me wonder if maybe you didn't rev it enough ... it's a short-stroke motor, after all.

the annoying 2nd gear vibes usually started when I DID carry the gear a little longer, reving it out on corner exits...

after a while I just started short shifting, it made for a more pleasant riding experience, and on that motor gear selection is less relevant because torque

I dont mind the thumpy agriculture vibes and shakes, the engine feels happy there, I do mind the annoying high frequency ones, where its obvious its not the engines happy spot.
 
I would look at ducati's but they have yet to discover cruise control

This isn't an issue for me, I guess. I haven't noticed any high-rpm vibes.

If you hate that, you'd REALLY hate a S1000R/S1000RR.

It’s not terrible tbh. And I find myself rolling off the throttle frequently just to hear the noise.

its not even the inconvenience, worst case scenario you have to use a cramp buster or throttle lock like a peasant,
but it gives you insight into the mindset of ducati and what they think of their customers, give us 50k!

It feels like a slap in the face tbh.

I read BMW started putting it on their touring bikes in like 2003, here we are 20 years later and ducati cant even be bothered with their flagship models.

Every time a company releases a modern high priced model and doesnt put cruise control on, its like a big f you to their customers.

It tells me they dont take their products seriously, so why should I?

Anyway im gonna go listen to some RSV4 sounds on youtube to calm myself down now.

I think you're taking the cruise control thing a bit too hard.

I just spent a couple weeks in Portugal in a rented VW golf 6 speed hybrid and I never used cruise nor felt the need, and I can't imagine its presence on a motorcycle would add much to the riding/ownership experience.

Disagree, once you try them on a bike, you will know.
 
The current production ZX10R has cruise control. Maybe the lack of that on the race bike is why Jonathan Rae can't catch the Ducatis any more.

If I'm with my motorcycle on a road that's straight enough and long enough to warrant the use of cruise control, I'll use the cruise control in my van with the bike in the back.

Yes yes, race bike, doesn’t need it. There’s no good reason at this price point why it’s not on there other than just ‘because’. He’s correct, that decision extends to almost the entire lineup. It wasn’t enough to stop me but I can certainly see the argument.
 
Race bikes dont need it, yet aprilia and bmw put it on their superbikes 🤔

In this day and age of drive-by-wire throttles and TFT instrument displays and all sorts of buttons as ECU inputs on the handlebars already, cruise control is practically a freebie for an OEM to install. That a manufacturer opts to do it or not, is pretty much some combination of marketing and liability and possibly ergonomics of an already-busy switch assembly. Don't neglect that word "liability". In courtroom after a crash ... "The cruise control engaged by itself and made me crash." "The complicated user interface led my client to press the wrong button and the cruise control engaged." Doesn't matter what the facts are. If the feature is not there, it can't be blamed. (Particularly a problem in the US market)
 
The Super Duke is the first bike I've ever had with cruise control. When I have to do long straight roads, it's a godsend. Love the feature.
