At work I just got the Priv with Android OS, I am so damn impressed with this phone. BAttery life is amazing, dual curve gorilla screen and a mix of the best android and BB features and the damn android apps all work amazing since is an android OS.
I know people love to hate on BB but this phone is awesome.

I had the Z10, Z30 and the Leap and the Priv is years ahead of any of those.

I've had my Priv since it came out. Its a great phone. I was using the S6 before that. I did drop my phone at a construction site and totally destroyed the screen. I had to pay roughly $300 for a new screen. My biggest issue with the PRIV is that it does not have an otterbox that encases the entire phone. That is pretty much my only gripe. The cases for the PRIV are not as robust as I would have liked.

Lol. BB10 enjoys the highest security of any OS on the earth hence the Federal et all sticking to it.

BlackBerry now bringing on Android will further strengthen their strategy and position as they now manufacturer the most secure Android phone on the planet and can keep all the suckies crying over lack of apps happy.

The main issue with Android is updates. Not all the manufacturers provide them for the handsets they're selling, or do so in a timely fashion. You have to give Apple credit there - they're still supporting handsets that are now over 5 years old which is ancient when it comes to tech.

The other reason I'd buy a nexus vs a Samsung or others is the lack of bloatware and carrier crapware. The Nexus is virgin Android.

FWIW I'm an iPhone guy, have been since the original one came out. Still like it, but I'll admit they're falling behind - if the i7 does turn out to be the lacklustre update it's rumoured to be I won't be upgrading my 6+ this year despite coming off contract in December, opting to wait for the 8 instead which is rumoured to be a major change. If the 8 turns out to be nothing big either, well, I'll regroup at that point and consider options. I'm not a fanboy so I could consider change at that point.

As for all the bells and whistles that people are getting excited about on the Note 7, I'll believe them when they prove actually functional. The iris scanner is bound to be one of those things that works correctly so frustratingly seldom that people just don't use it. The waterproof thing, well, like the Sony phone that also boasted such, it's only good until you forget or loose one of the little rubber plugs that covers the ports, and then it does like all the others.

On my Galaxy S7 the headphone port is water resistant/proof and only the USB has a covered port. On the S7 and S7 Edge the ports are designed to be water resistant/proof so there is no plugs to worry about. The new Note 7 added some cool tech to the stylus so that you can actually use it under water and the stylus will work. You could easily snorkle with the thing and it would work as a camera (how good it would do underwater pictures is another matter). The water resistant/proof rating on the Note 7 is a higher rating than my S5.
 
How many people actually use the features in the operating system?
How many ppl use all of those features of the OS?

It seems it makes more sense that you are able to:
1. swap out battery
2. add memory
3. unlock your phone to use on any network (Nexus and I think the Samsung's are factory unlocked or easy to do)
4. have an open system meaning I plug in my Android using a REGULAR cable and it pops up like a sdcard unlike Iphone that you NEED to load up Itunes in order to transfer info to the phone.
5. NFC- it's nice to transfer by touching the 2 phones plus there are some nifty uses for it.

look for a tempered glass screen protector along with a decent case should protect the phone

Any handset you pay full-fare for should arrive in your hands unlocked.

Any handset for which you went on a contract with a subsidy as part of the agreement will almost certainly arrive locked, and can be unlocked for a fee, sometimes during the contract (however the contract still stands), or after completion of the contract.

I must say it's nice to see a mostly reasonable conversation on the Apple vs Android front...quite often these sorts of things degrade in no time with fanboys on either end throwing mud at each other. I see the merits in both platforms and am objective, despite being an iPhone user as earlier mentioned.

What I don't get however is the hatred some people have for Apple. They're a North American company employing far more people from our continent than any other handset maker out there. They have North American values in mind. They spend a ton of R&D money here. They have a long history and footprint here. They just recently put up a valiant stand for user privacy making their stance quite clear. And..they make a very high quality product with well known customer satisfaction ratings that are amongst the top in the industry. Skip the crap about "sheeple" and all such silliness, these are the facts.

Yet some people tout Samsung (a Korean company where almost all of your money goes with a comparatively tiny north american presence) like they're the second coming of Christ, while in their next breath without thinking about the comparisons, condemn companies that "ship jobs overseas", farm out call centers, etc etc etc.

So, the hatred for Apple at the expense of Samsung is effectively the hatred of a domestic company for a foreign one with well known shady business practices. If you're going to buy an Android handset, hey, all the power to you, I may very well do the same thing one day...but look at the company behind the hardware - Samsung is hardly a company that is deserving of sending billions of our dollars to - you'd be far better off buying one of BB's new Android offerings, or a Nexus - at least they're North American companies at their roots.

And remember, Samsung is not Android - Google is Android. Being an Android user doesn't mean you need to be a Samsung customer.

Those are just a few of the reasons... and yeah, I know if you search for 'play store censorship' or 'google censorship', you'll find examples to throw back at me, but the fact is that apple is by far the worst offender and I will not pay for a device that will censor what I can see or do.

I use android because I can get or see whatever I want, and I can customize it however I want. That is why I have hate for Apple Inc.

Fair argument, but it comes down to what consumers and shareholders demand. We are our worst enemies - we want premium products for cheap prices. It's the same reason cheap WalMart products outsell quality North American ones - people want cheap stuff (even if it's crap, which at least Apple is on the right side of from a quality standpoint), and the same people are reluctant to pay more for a higher quality product, or one made here on this side of the pond.

Look at Canadian Flags for example - $1 made in China from the dollar store, or $10 made in Canada at Canadian Tire. Guess which one sells more?

Samsung and other handset manufacturers do the same, so it's unfair when people point the finger at Apple (who at least has a huge footprint here and DOES spend big $$$ here in parts of the process, unlike it's competitors that ship virtually 100% of the profit back overseas to China, South Korea, etc) yet don't hold other manufacturers like Samsung to the same expectations.
 
If you are going to use the whole 'buy North American' argument, then why don't you have a Blackberry? At least their profits end up in Canada.

Your position is flawed.
You are correct people want cheap items and don't care where it comes from.
With that in mind you answered your own question. It doesn't matter anymore because it's about being cheap for the consumer BUT it's really about the company raking in huge $$$.

They said it would cost Apple an extra $2-$5 per product to make them in the USA.
So who is really fooling whom.

Who said that? And which product? I have a hard time believing that it would only cost Apple an additional $2-5 to manufacture a $700 (retail) iPhone stateside. They could easily pass that cost to the consumer and get a TON of favourable publicity in the process. There's just no way it would be that cheap. Especially considering the massive up front investment to build the production facilities stateside.
 
I actually like Apple products and recommend them to others. Frankly, my wife should have bought an iPhone instead of the Sony she bought (although it is a beautiful phone). For me I like having expandable memory so the Micro SD slot is a must and I love being able to load music and video super easily. If Apple had expandable storage then perhaps I would consider one. As it is a 128 Gig iPhone is big money and I used more storage than that anyways!

Lots of great Android phones. I presently use Samsung and will snag another one because I want water proof/resistant plus micro SD support.
