Of course there are emissions..I'm not dumb like Rob Ford. The point is, it eases pollution where it's worst. Only a simple person would believe that streetcars are able to move with zero emissions, or that someone else would believe that. Stop reading the Sun!!!

I can name a thousand politicians that are well educated and no criminal records, but do under handed things and are incompetent. The entire republican political sphere as a whole just scares the hell out of me. Just because one didn't go to school doesn't mean they aren't as smart as you. Don't base him on where he came from, but rather what he has done/is doing.

Ford has done a better job than the last 3 mayors before him combined. /end

Ya, he got charged with a marijuana possession that just makes me like him even more.

Also that charge got dropped.

I prefer my politicians to be appear human, people make mistakes, at least he is not a slimy self righteous low life like say doltan who makes my skin crawl every time I see his smug beady eyed face in the media.

My buddy has a marijuana possession charge too. I could not get him a job here where I work because of that. And it is a crappy job that I have, don't think it is a high profile job. On the other hand, this guy became the major of Canada's largest city.

I scratch my head...

Google it... charged with driving under the influence and possession of marijuana... marwanna charge was dismissed, convicted of driving under the influence.

Charged a couple of other times too, regarding assault and a domestic issue vs. his wife... do not know if he was convicted or not

EDIT: I am guessing you didn't know and voted for him? Would have made any difference if you knew?

+1 .. This isn't news. It's a slip of the tongue. The real story here is that our news outlets spend more time reporting about who said what, who slept with who and which celebrity might be hiding a pregnancy then any actual news.. and we encourage them by continue to watch/read it. I weep for man kind.

What does that have to do with the way he does his job? I don't care if he was arrested for clubbing baby seals with the body of an infant he murdered.. unless he was hired to run a day care or work security at the zoo it's got nothing to do with his job.

Tell me he was arrested for embezzling money from another city he was formerly the mayor of under a false name, and then I'll tell you he probably shouldn't be mayor with that on his record..

P.S I'm not saying i'm for or against him.. I'm not a resident of Toronto and thus can't vote on the matter.. my personal opinion, from the modest amount I pay attention, he seems like he's making the unpopular choices which are often the ones that need to be made. I applaud it when a politician cares more about doing what needs to be done then getting re-elected. Unfortunetly the two are often mutually exclusive because what needs to be done is rarely what's popular. HOWEVER, even if I thought he was the worst mayor on the plant neither his mixing up the name of a city nor his personal life or past offenses would have ANYTHING to do with it.

I don't think it's the charge itself as much as the fact that he lied about it later. I don't have a huge issue with marijuana, but I do with politicians lying to save their butt, because it would make me concerned about what else they'd lie about. It's a question of personal integrity, and I realize that it's in short supply in this profession.

I'm sure Rob Ford apologists buy into his excuse that he simply "forgot about it"....

I understand where you're coming from, but I don't agree. People need to learn to separate professional lives from personal lives.

I'm not just talking about in Relation to Rob Ford but any politician and any person for that matter.. if someone lies and/or cheats on their wife/husband doesn't mean they will lie/cheat in the workplace.. and vice versa being a good/crappy employee doesn't mean your a good/crappy husband/wife.

I think if he's caught lying about a policy or something to do with the job.. that news. If someone spots him out on a Saturday night with a hooker.. it's nobody's business.

I think Clinton was an excellent president.. I couldn't care less what went on between him and Monica or that he lied about it.


But just my 3cents..

Luckily (or unluckily) I do not live in Toronto either!

Not sure I agree with you and the argument that a child murderer can still do a good job as an elected representative, but not in a job around children. For a person, they say that past performance is the best indicator of future behavior. If you look at Mr. Ford’s record closer, I am sure you will be puzzled (just like me) of the fact he made it to major.

Now find me a politician that doesnt lie.

If you do find one, it simply means that he's an even better liar than all of the other liars.

Truth is, as stated earlier, everybody has his/her flaws, and id say ALMOST everybody lies, whether it be a white lie, or straight up lie.
Now, does it affect his capacity to do his job? No
Does it bother you? Yes
What can you do? Vote and pray for a less worst option.

I'm not defending any other politicians or their capacity for lying. But for anyone to say that Ford is a man of integrity is laughable.

He's not my mayor, so it's no skin off my shoulder. I just scratch my head at the mental gymnastics some Torontonians must do on a regular basis to constantly defend this guy. If you're happy with him - then all the power to him. Besides, it provides plenty of comic relief every time I read the paper. :D
 
Think what you want..you may love the guy because he's a dumb-*** bull-shitter..you may hate the guy because he's a convict..but at the end of the day, his job is to be mayor..he absolutely cannot work with council..he can't build consensus..he doesn't know what planning is..he doesn't have any grasp of financial issues. He just blurts out some catch-phrases and everyone loves him for it. His brother takes all the tough questions..you'd be better off with Doug as mayor quite frankly. And it's unfortunate that the people who love him can't see that he's useless. It's generating US style politics..he's a non-pinko so we love him, no matter how incompetent he is. That's an awesome way to run things..

My garbage is picked up before I leave for work so I can bring the bins in and not leave it on the sidewalk all day before I get home. That's never happened before the mayor contracted out the garbage pick up and I don't have to worry about another 39-day garbage strike in the middle of summer, turning the public parks into dumps.
