Anyone miss riding yet?

Roads looked great yester-evening.
Was tempted to go out, but then I checked the temps and it was still -10c-ish with windchill.

Gets me everytime.

Bought a CCm in 2012 from Canadian Tire and used it a lot that year, some more moderate use the next 2 and the bike is holding fine, don't get me wrong, parts like brakes etc are cheap and definitely not the latest tech but can't expect too much form a $300 road bike, I am not competing in the tour of france, I just wanted something to exercise with.

I didn't even ride mine hard and it's falling apart in a year. I don't even think I went off the road with it and I'm sure if I did it wouldn't have lasted as long as it did.

Next time I'll buy a used bike or one from a real bike shop.

Can it be the (kid) that put it together did something wrong? That sucks!

Buying a proper used bike is always the better bet, but when I was looking for a used one, as soon as something decent came on the market at a decent price, it would be sold within an hr

Even the Chinese won't ride CTC bikes.

Lol. My CTC Schwinn is a complete POS as well. It has the worst saddle ever passed off as a seat, the crank bearings are cooked, forks have lost more oil than BP ever did. I was ill over the summer, spent some time in the hospital. Upon my return, I noticed someone had stolen my wife's pedal bike - to do so they had to push my Schwinn out of the shed to get my wife's bike out - A Purple Walmart Mongoose 24". A sad, sad moment for the once proud Schwinn brand.

I had a couple ccm's/supercycles that self destructed after a few uses.

Bought a proper used Trek hybrid from kijiji 5 years ago. Thing is a beast and hasn't given any issues. Got it for $300 (more than half off). Solid everyday kind of bicycle.

And this is the winning answer. I bought a used Cannondale hybrid for my wife. It's indestructible, looks great and rides amazingly. I bought a new Kona mountain bike for myself (Fire Mountain) about 18 years ago. It's also like new today. Throw away bicycles are cheap, but they will be unpleasant to ride after a relativity short time, and will usually cost more in the long run with replacement parts and/or bicycles.

Spring is something like 63 days from now but we should be able to start riding before then (depending on road conditions and weather of course...)

This one sentence has been stuck in my head since you posted it. (now with a countdown) It is NOT getting better.. :lmao:

I work for an energy management company and have access to weather predictions. we are in for a LONG *** winter, don't bother counting

:(

I ride depending on the conditions ie: dry roads, sunny and not below -6 excluding windchill... I'm in college and I ride 5km to class on literally one or two roads that are straight

Exactly why I bought a beater DL650 for winter, so I don't need to care if we have another long winter or not. I felt guilty every time I took my K1300S out last winter in all the salt, and I refused to feel that way again!

My GSXR's exhaust pipes behind the front wheel look like they suffered stage 4 cancer. I never want to take it out in winter again :(

My first CTC bike lasted 10 years as an everyday rider. The bike I had before that was a used one from the early sixties.

Just because bikes today are disposable, doesn't mean that this was always the case.

Still riding an old Giant mountain/road bike from about 11, 12 years ago, with it being a commuter bike for 7-8 of those years. In that time I've replaced the wheels and the headset once (hooray Toronto road quality) and it's due for the headset again probably. Still runs decent, though the front forks are frozen now (not a huge deal), and it looks beat to ****, but yeah it's still serviceable.

I'd like to buy a lighter one at some point though for my old knees and my Giant IS pretty worn all 'round, so I'd get a new one if I had the cash, but I wouldn't be buying the $200 "house special". Get a proper one used and it'll hold up for years and years. Mine doesn't owe me a damn thing. Bicycles are simple machines and there's not much on them can't be replaced or fixed cheaply.

Well, if I was in China and came across a "Canaydan Tires" outlet, I wouldn't buy anything there either. ;)

Full titanium headers and exhaust...problem solved

Dont forget the fasteners (bolts). That's the area traditionally weak on Suzuki's as far as rust resistance. Look at most that have been left in the rain, Britain is a good place to look. Honda will generally look much better than Suzuki and always at most bolt heads.

You're right, I don't think I ever contemplated on removing any of my headers. They look rusted-in. But I'm sure you can replace them with stainless bolts.
