Anyone into gardening here?

Just finished taking down a plum that had become diseased. Trimmed up 75’ of cedar hedge that’s succumbing to aggressive pruning my neighbor did on their side.

Need help with the hedge. It’s planted on the tree line, about 16’ tall and has a spread of 6’ (radius). The trunk is on the property line, neighbour scalped it back to the trunk on their side 5 years ago, since then the bottom 6’ of foliage on my side had died.

I’d like to cut it down to 8’, but nit sure if the lower part will ever fill back in.

Anyone revived a damaged cedar hedge?
Just a thought but PGR's/ ceder trees and seasonal timing might be it.

I thought my winter hardy cactus had died. It looked pretty sorry after the winter as all the paddles fell off. It’s alive though, new growth on it and it’s growing fast.

Daffodils and tulips are done... put in the marigolds to add some colour with the alliums.
Whats the correct approach for daffodils? I have tons that have finished. Tie them off? Clips stems and leave leaves? Do nothing?

Gardening isn't my thing. I aim for not worst in the neighbourhood

Tying them off is the old school approach to allowing the full leaves to enjoy photosynthesis. Nothing wrong with that, but it's the most time consunming.

I like to pinch jutst the spent flower stems a couple inches above the ground, so the pinched end is buried in the mass of leaves. Then let the leaves naturally yellow out. When they are yellowed out, then I would cut them at around 2-3" above the ground and that's it.

Clip stems, let the foliage get a bit of sun to store some in the bulbs and once they started fading/wilting, cut em down

Our hedge is overgrown to about 10 feet wide. Several arborists say it can't be corrected and trimming the top was a challenge so I welded an cheap pair of garden shears to a 10 foot aluminum pole and ran a steel cable down the middle. A few bits and pieces to get things moving in the right direction and the hedge has a nice haircut.

Surprisingly both our vegetable gardens have not had any real animal damage except for the goose that pooped in one..
Hopefully a decent harvest and we'll learn and go from there...

Cherry tree got a bad aphid attack. Only year two for this one and it has cherries on it. I read that it should be sprayed at the start of the season to kill overwintering bugs. I’ll do that next year but for now we sprayed with an organic permethrin spray and then used a water jet to wash off the aphids and cleaned off the rest by hand. Luckily it was only the tips of the tree affected but those are the growing tips.

Very nice, I love a good herb garden.

Wife wanted one so I built a leaning herb garden a few years ago.
Is that pressure treated? Are you supposed to grow food in a pressure treated box? Do you have liners?

I just went with a costco special plastic raised bed for herbs. Most die in the winter and I buy a new batch in the spring. Cilantro from last year regrew.

And yes, that's a wooden deer with a camera on its face. Temporary setup to let me monitor critters around the house.

Keep an eye on that mint, it will take over. I may have to get one of these, the rabbits are using my garden as a pantry. I hate fencing, but I may finally do it. They don't touch the mint or cilantro though :ROFLMAO:

There is a reason the mint is in the pot and not in the ground. Pitchers of mojitos sometimes keep the mint at bay but at $70 a bottle for rum, some of the mint may need to be culled.

Buy more $30 rums and the mojitos will take care of the mint cull.

Hey do you have any updated photos. I've been curious about your cactus to see if it would survive as I want to explore this option.
